    SMX is seeking a Systems Engineer to help design, deploy, and sustain secure cloud infrastructure supporting a critical transformation initiative for a federal customer. In this role, you will contribute to the deployment and continuous enhancement of a secure AWS GovCloud environment supporting IL5 systems, enabling secure, scalable mission applications. This is a hands-on engineering position where innovation and security come together in a dynamic DevSecOps setting. This position is a hybrid role supporting a Herndon, VA based team.

    Essential Duties:

    + Support the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of secure AWS GovCloud environments.

    + Operate and enhance shared services and infrastructure aligned with DoD Secure Cloud Computing Architecture (SCCA).

    + Contribute to system automation through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and scripting to improve scalability and resilience.

    + Maintain security compliance through support of RMF artifacts, STIG hardening, and vulnerability remediation.

    + Monitor and optimize system performance and availability through logging and observability tooling.

    + Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and other agile ceremonies with cross-functional teams.

    + Assist in managing system documentation and operational playbooks in support of the ATO process..

    Required Skills & Experience:

    + BA/BS in a technical field (e.g., Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology).

    + 5+ years of systems engineering experience, including work in cloud or hybrid environments.

    + Experience supporting AWS services and infrastructure, especially in IL5 environments.

    + Familiarity with IaC tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.

    + Working knowledge of RMF, STIGs, and cybersecurity best practices.

    + Secret clearance.

    Desired Skills & Experience

    + Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps integration.

    + Experience with AWS GovCloud deployments and service configurations.

    + Security certifications such as AWS Security Specialty, CISSP, or Security+.

    The proposed salary for this position is:

    $103,200—$172,000 USD
