Position Summary Information
Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineer 2
Independently develop a variety of single and multi-discipline construction projects, from project start to project closeout, by utilizing outside design professionals, and working with other disciplines and tradespeople to ensure project integrity. Projects include but are not limited to HVAC , plumbing and mechanical systems.
Work also involves the review of designs by design professionals for conformity with University’s design standards, PASSHE rules, regulations, building codes and safety laws including but not limited to ASHRAE , UCC , LEED , and NFPA . At times may develop small designs using AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Adobe Acrobat and prepare building permit applications.
Utilize and adhere to the SRU Administrative Program Standards to administer capital improvement projects.
Participates in design development for major renovations and alterations to include development of cost estimates for labor, material, and equipment.
Serves as project coordinator and reviews and evaluates the feasibility of work requests; determines the scope of work; conducts site surveys; compiles data, prepares field reports; recommend design solutions which may include the restoration, preservation or repair of facilities.
Reviews project submissions for adherence to specifications, such as cost breakdowns, shop drawings, descriptive data and other related information; approves submissions or reviews discrepancies with supervisor; and participates in job conferences.
Reviews shop drawings, catalog cuts, and sources of supply to ensure compliance with contract specifications for quality control and project functionality.
Reviews and analyzes change orders to determine necessity, cost/ benefit and compatibility with overall project design.
Maintains electronic files containing drawings, photos, and data that are accessible to the Design and Construction Team.
Assists in compiling and maintaining data for electronic Facilities Space Inventory database that documents all spaces within campus buildings. Report required annually to the State System of Higher Education.
Provides support for Facilities and Planning activities as requested.
Must have valid driver’s license.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of professional mechanical experience which required work on any mechanical system, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering;
OR,
Two years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any mechanical system, and an Engineer in Training Certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists;
OR,
Promotional after one year of experience as a Mechanical Engineer 1.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience managing projects in higher education or a similar environment.
2. Strong understanding of construction management, and contract administration principles.
3. Ability to interpret and evaluate drawings and specifications.
4. Knowledge of federal and state laws, codes, regulations and policies related to architectural and engineering design.
5. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
6. Demonstrate leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to navigate complex project issues to achieve project goals.
7. Competency in project documentation creation and tracking tools such as Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), Blue Beam, MS Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Access), MS Project, MS Teams, and DocuSign.
