THE POSITION

Consider the role of Survey Technician for the Department of Transportation, where you will perform a variety of beginning level technical work of a training nature to become proficient in the work of being a member of a survey team to operate manual and electronic equipment for preliminary, right-of-way, engineering, bridge, construction, land, and property surveys. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in a thorough 12-month training program that includes a range of entry-level tasks aimed at enhancing your technical skills and expertise in specific areas of engineering technology, such as surveying, drafting and design, construction and materials inspection, as well as traffic control and planning. You will utilize surveying principles to gather and report data essential for the design and construction of highways and bridges. Additionally, you will support the setup, operation, adjustment, and maintenance of various surveying instruments, while also establishing centerlines, measuring angles, and verifying the alignment of structures. Your responsibilities will include staking out tangents, curve stations, and reference control points.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

+ Full-time employment

+ Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

+ Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

+ One year of experience as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or

+ Three years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments;or

+ One year of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology .

Condition of Employment:

+ This position requires possession of a valid PA Class C non-commercial driver's license.
