Are you passionate about helping communities recover from disasters? Join Sarasota County as a Disaster Grant Recovery Specialist (DGRS) and play a vital role in supporting our disaster recovery efforts.
This newly created position expands our current team of three (3) and focuses on coordinating the County’s financial recovery following disasters. Responsibilities include developing recovery processes, gathering financial documentation, preparing FEMA Project Worksheets, and managing grant submissions. About the Position
In this role, you'll collaborate with multiple County departments as well as state and federal agencies to ensure the timely and accurate submission of disaster-related financial claims.
Examples of responsibilities include...
+ Collaborating with County departments to ensure disaster recovery efforts follow federal guidelines and best practices.
+ Providing guidance and support to staff and stakeholders throughout all phases of disaster recovery.
+ Overseeing the full disaster claims process, including documentation, site inspections, and submission of final reports to FEMA and other agencies.
+ Coordinating communications with federal and state agencies, scheduling meetings and site visits, and tracking outstanding requests.
+ Managing disaster grant finances, including budget monitoring, financial reporting, and prioritization of recovery funding needs.
+ Researching and applying relevant regulations to ensure compliance with disaster finance requirements; assessing and communicating impacts of policy changes.
+ Maintaining and using databases to generate detailed grant and project reports; analyzing findings and implementing solutions based on data.
Special Note: This position is a time-limited role . In this time-limited role, your position may be maintained until September 30, 2028. You will receive benefits and retirement, but will lack retention rights to your position.
About the Schedule
Work Hours:
+ Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (No weekends!)
+ This position offers the opportunity to e-work up to two (2) days per week! Following your first six (6) months of employment, and based on job responsibilities and business needs , you may become eligible for this flexible work benefit.
About You
To be considered for this role, you must have the following:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or other related field -with- a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience.
+ -OR- Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience.
+ -OR- CPA license may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
+ -OR- Related professional experience, or certifications, may substitute for the required education.

+ Prior experience managing the disaster grant process.
About Everything Else
Starting Pay Range: $61,131.20 - $75,000.00, depending on qualifications
