    Position Summary:

    The Loss Control Specialist will execute Marathon Petroleum Corporation's (MPC) loss control program at the Galveston Bay Refinery. Reporting directly to the Loss Control Manager, this position will provide comprehensive loss control services for operations involving Marine Vessels, Terminals, Pipeline Systems, and Refineries at both MPC and customer locations. The specialist will oversee field measurements conducted by independent inspection companies and collaborate with terminal staff, the commercial Loss Control and Quality Assurance teams, as well as accounting and scheduling stakeholders. This role focuses on minimizing risks related to loss control by leading improvement projects and ensuring strict adherence to company policies and industry standards.

     

    This position requires strong technical expertise as well as interpersonal, communication, Excel and data analytic/interpretation skills. Up to 25% travel is required but may fluctuate at times to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Performs in-person and/or data analytic oversight of internal and third-party measurement transactions and/or systems to/from MPC.

    + Gathers data, documents, and/or prepares savings reports and updates dashboard/KPIs. Maintains supporting documents per MPC document retention policy.

    + Identifies Loss Control issues and improvement initiatives at a local level. Works collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and implement innovative solutions as well as action plan to improve Loss Control performance. Directs related reports and recommendations to appropriate personnel.

    + Develops functional knowledge e.g., MPC Loss Control SOP, API, interpret/analyst data, reconcile system balance, MPC operation (e.g., Marine, Pipeline and/or Refinery), software and tools. Monitors and stays up to date with industry, federal, state, or local resources.

    + Supports the development and maintenance of Loss Control standards, processes, procedures, and custody transfer measurement systems; introduces new technologies to help the company minimize hydrocarbon loss.

    + Supports investigations and audits to ensure procedural compliance relative to loss control and measurement standards. Supports negotiation/escalation of volume discrepancies and notifies manager of formal claims, if needed.

    + Oversees and validates field measurements performed by independent inspection companies.

    + Collaborates with internal teams, contractors, and third-party service providers to implement and maintain best practices in loss control.

    + Investigates product loss incidents and develop reports with findings, corrective actions, and recommendations for improvement.

    + Provides training and guidance to staff and stakeholders on best practices for minimizing hydrocarbon losses and maintaining operational standards.

    + Supports new business opportunity assessments as needed.

    Education and Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree required or five (5) years of experience in lieu.

    + Two (2) or more years of experience in Oil & Gas required.
