    Job Description Summary

    The inaugural Executive Director for the Arts serves as the deputy to the inaugural Vice Provost for the Arts and staff director for the office’s portfolio and related committees. The Executive Director will provide high-level support for operationalizing and supporting the vision for the arts at Penn. This would include, but not be limited to, outreach, programming, communication, and initiatives as directed by the Vice Provost, from initial fact-finding through program/project design, budgetary support, and implementation.

     

    The Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts will draw from the Penn arts community, as well as external and community partnerships, to maximize the impact of innovative, cross-disciplinary, and experimental work and to imagine new possibilities for the arts at Penn.

    Job Description

    Job Responsibilities

    + Provide strategic input to the Vice Provost, including analyzing and identifying both new opportunities and opportunities for the development of existing programs; conducting in-depth research, writing briefings, and preparing and delivering reports to stakeholders; and coordinating activities with other key departments to ensure initiatives and projects stay on task.

    + Serve as point person for internal and external constituents regarding arts initiatives at Penn, including serving as a direct liaison to the Philadelphia region’s arts community and staffing the internal Provost’s Arts Council and other internal arts groups; organizing and preparing materials for programs, initiatives, and events; and maintaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, faculty, community organizations, and partner institutions.

    + Manage communications content and planning for the office, in partnership with the Offices of the Provost and University Communications. Including newsletters, social media, and an Arts website to be launched in FY26.

    + Implement and track the alignment of the arts with the University’s strategic framework, including but not limited to annual goals reporting.

    + Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    Qualifications

    + Master’s degree and 5-7 years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required; 10+ years of directly relevant experience preferred.

    + Experience working in an arts-focused organization, including practical hands-on work in program and/or events management.

     

    Demonstrated experience in managing complex programs and initiatives, with a track record of increasing responsibility in an organization.

     

    + Demonstrated track record of building internal and external relationships to advance key initiatives and strategic goals, especially cross-organizational and cross-functional initiatives involving varied stakeholders.

    + Experience with website design and administration preferred.

    Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
