    Position Summary:

    The Pharmacy Services Director (Community/Specialty) is responsible for overseeing the operations of the community/retail and/or specialty pharmacy service line(s). This role ensures the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care, compliance with regulatory standards, and the implementation of efficient and cost-effective practices. The director will lead a team of pharmacy professionals, manage medication inventory, and collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes enhance the quality of care provided.

    Education, License & Cert:

    Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree or higher. Current Licensure as a pharmacist in the state of New York for New York based hospitals and/or in the state of Pennsylvania.

    Experience:

    Minimum of 5 years of progressive pharmacy experience in outpatient/community and/or specialty pharmacy practice, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

     

    A Pharmacy Services Director (Community/Specialty) should personify strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent communication and collaboration abilities, and be able to show proficiency in pharmacy management and have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic pharmacy environment.

    Essential Functions:

    + Leadership and Management:

    + Oversee the daily operations of the pharmacy department, including staff management, budgeting, and inventory control, which includes adequate control and documentation for purchase, inventory and record keeping of controlled substances.

    + Develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and procedures to ensure high standards of cost-effective pharmaceutical care.

    + Develop strategic departmental goals in alignment with organizational goals and accountability for those goals.

    + Mentor, train, and evaluate performance of pharmacy staff, fostering a positive and productive, and collaborative work environment.

    + Oversees staff recruitment and hiring processes

    + Ensures maintenance of an adequate drug supply.

    + Develop and manage the department budget, monitor financial performance, and implement cost-saving measures while maintaining quality patient care.

    + Ensure compliance with health-system policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services.

    + Clinical and Pharmaceutical Services:

    + Ensure the safe and accurate dispensing of medications to patients.

    + Collaborate with the medical staff to develop and implement medication therapy management programs.

    + Monitor patient medication regimens and provide clinical consultations to healthcare providers.

    + Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and committees to enhance patient care.

    + Operational Oversight:

    + Oversee procurement, storage, and distribution of medications, ensuring accurate inventory management and safe medication practices. This includes the proper oversight of cold chain dispensing.

    + Implement strategies to optimize pharmacy operations, ensuring efficient and cost-effective practices.

    + Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure appropriate medication therapy and promote medication safety.

    + Ensures accountability in collaboration with pharmacy leadership team for updated and appropriate collaborative practice agreements are in place at all assigned practice areas.

    + In reference to specialty pharmacy, the director provides guidance and is responsible for oversight of the clinical aspects of the Specialty Pharmacy Patient Management program.

    + Regulatory Compliance:

    + Maintain compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and rules related to pharmacy practice.

    + Ensure adherence to accreditation standards and guidelines (e.g. URAC, ACHC, etc.)

    + Stay updated with current trends, advancements, and regulatory changes in pharmacy practice to ensure compliance and provide expert advice to healthcare providers.

    + Conducting regular audits and reviews of pharmacy practices and procedures.

    + Establishes systems that ensure confidentiality of patient information.

    + Quality Improvement:

    + Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and medication-use processes.

    + Analyze data and outcomes to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective action plans.

    + Promote and participate in research and educational activities related to pharmacy practice.

    Other Duties:

    Performs staff pharmacist duties as well as own duties as necessary. Fulfills on-call obligations per pre-arranged schedule. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

     

    Pay range min $69.66/hr max $109.35
