    Nexstar Media Group (San Diego, CA)


    ROLE: Individual will coordinate daily news coverage on broadcast and digital platforms, maintain assignment desk functions, organize field assignments and plan coverage to support FOX 5/KUSI’s news brand.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Responsible for listening to scanners

    + Dispatches photographers, reporters and other personnel to cover stories

    + Tracks stories from all sources including government agencies, wire services and community groups

    + Assists in development, planning and follow-up of all news stories

    + Keeps newsroom informed of story developments throughout day

    + Answers phones and email to determine what makes a great story

    + Edits video clips as assigned

    + Coordinates live shots and content sharing with Nexstar affiliates, FOX, and other partners

    + Posts stories to station website and social media sites

    + Performs other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or communications background preferred

    + 2-year’s experience in a top 50 market newsroom

    + Knowledge of the San Diego area a plus

    REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Must have superior organizational skills

    + Must be able to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks

    + Must be able to make decisions and take a leadership role

    + Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written

    + Must be able to direct the efforts of reporters, photographers

    + Must be able to operate as a team member as well as a team leader

    + Must be able to take suggestions, participate in decision-making, and be flexible in recognizing various points of view

    + Must be capable of interacting productively with other employees of the station

    + Must be willing to work on weekends, holidays and overnight hours as needed

    + Starting $27/hr commensurate with skill level and experience
