Position Summary:
The Oncology Nurse Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the operations and clinical care provided in the oncology department. This individual ensures safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care for individuals undergoing cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. The Nurse Manager supervises a team of oncology nurses and support staff, collaborates with the multidisciplinary care team, and leads initiatives focused on staff development, compliance, quality improvement, and patient satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Lead and manage the daily clinical and administrative operations of the oncology nursing unit.
+ Supervise and support oncology nursing staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
+ Ensure nursing care aligns with evidence-based oncology practices, institutional protocols, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., ONS, JCAHO, CMS).
+ Promote patient safety, infection control, and chemotherapy administration standards.
+ Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, patients, families, and administrative leadership.
+ Monitor patient outcomes, track performance metrics, and implement quality improvement initiatives.
+ Maintain accurate documentation and support the use of electronic medical records (EMR).
+ Manage departmental budgets, resources, and inventory in collaboration with finance and procurement teams.
+ Foster a supportive, team-oriented work environment that emphasizes continuing education and professional growth.
Qualifications:
+ Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
+ Licensure: Active RN license in TX; Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred or willingness to obtain.
+ Certifications: BLS and ACLS certification required.
+ Experience:
+ Minimum of 4 years of nursing experience, with at least 3 years in oncology care.
+ Prior leadership, charge nurse, or nurse manager experience strongly preferred.
Skills:
+ Strong clinical knowledge of oncology treatments (chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy).
+ Effective leadership, organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
+ Proficiency in EMR systems and nursing management software.
Work Environment:
+ Inpatient or outpatient oncology setting.
+ Regular exposure to patients undergoing complex treatments.
+ Requires standing, walking, and interaction with staff and patients for extended periods.
