    Overview

     

    Help shape the future of energy policy and champion our company's success as a Federal Affairs Specialist in PPL's Washington, DC office. We are seeking a passionate and strategic individual to join our Federal Affairs team focusing on legislative, agency, and regulatory relations. This is your chance to be at the forefront of critical issues impacting the electric and gas utility industry for a leading company at a pivotal time for the sector. As part of the Federal Affairs team you'll be a company champion, working alongside industry leaders and policymakers to ensure our voice is heard and interests protected.

    Responsibilities

    + Emerging issue Identification: Proactively monitor federal government actions (legislative, executive, agency and regulatory) to identify potential impacts on the electric and gas utility industry and company operations.

    + Strategic Analysis: Conduct preliminary policy analysis to assess federal policy issues, identifying areas requiring further study by the Federal Affairs Team and internal clients (subject matter experts).

    + Advocacy: Assist the Federal Affairs Team to develop effective response strategies to federal policy issues critical to the company.

    + Building Relationships: Foster and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including members of Congress and staff, agency and executive branch staff, trade associations, and industry representatives.

    + Company Champion: Represent the company in interactions with external stakeholders, advocating for the company's established goals and objectives with a clear and confident voice.

    + Develop and Implement Advocacy Strategies: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to understand business priorities and align federal advocacy strategies accordingly. Support the Federal Affairs team in engaging Congress, federal agencies, and regulatory bodies to advance the company’s objectives

    + Alignment and Engagement: Serve as a bridge between internal teams and external policymakers by monitoring, analyzing, and responding to legislative and regulatory developments. Assist in crafting company positions and advocacy efforts to effectively engage with all branches of the federal government.

    + Research & Communication Support: Assist Federal Affairs team members with research, writing, and communication activities for both internal and external audiences. This includes monthly policy reports, regular PAC updates, and various other publications.

    + Political Action Committee (PAC) Engagement: Provide support for PAC operations including representing the company PAC at political events and assist in developing outreach efforts to strengthen political engagement.

    + All other duties and projects as assigned.

    + Complies with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Affairs, or a related field

    + 5 + years of experience on Capitol Hill, at a federal agency, in government relations, trade association, public affairs, or a relevant field.

    + Strong understanding of the federal legislative and agency process

    + Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.

    + Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

    + Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise good judgment

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Knowledge of the electric and gas utility industry preferred.

    + Existing relationships with members of congress, legislative staff and/or agency officials/staff preferred.

    + Familiarity with PPL’s footprint is a plus.

    Remote Work

    The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
