    Position Summary:

    Provides administrative oversight, strategic planning, and management of environmental health and safety, occupational safety, and fire safety programs based on best practices and encompassing a broad range of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. Works with other college departments to develop and implement safety and training programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and conduct periodic inspections and audits. Works with local community, state, and regional officials to identify and advance best practices while maintaining regulatory compliance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Promote a culture of safety on campus through outreach, awareness programming and training and lead EHS programs and serve as the Chemical Hygiene Officer.

    + Conduct safety and environmental inspections; manage corrective actions. Ensure completion of safety equipment and systems inspections performed by outside vendors, review those results to ensure corrective action and to recommend improvements and maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, NYSDEC, NFPA, and fire safety codes.

    + Oversee hazardous waste management and emergency preparedness plans and ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.

    + Manage and develop the CampusOptics chemical inventory and safety software application and certify that laboratory technicians and other designated employees manage and update chemical inventories and safety date sheet (SDS) access in their respective areas.

    + Develop an EHS training matrix with the Safety Committee, identifying regulatory training requirements and the target audience for each requirement and conduct program-specific annual trainings.

    + Lead investigations into accidents and injuries on campus, including workers compensation injuries. Document investigative activities and forward investigative reports to the appropriate departments (finance and human resources) and collaborate with human resources on root cause analysis and recommendations for corrective actions.

    + Coordinate with HR, Campus Safety, Facilities, and regulatory agencies.

    + Work with Campus Safety, Facilities, Student Engagement, and other campus stakeholders to assist in the implementation of fire safety mitigation, compliance and training programs.

    + Liaison with the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control and accompany them to perform annual fire safety inspections, ensure all violations are properly remediated in a timely manner and provide training and programming to prevent recurrence.

    Other Information:

    This is a full time, 12 month, administrative salaried exempt position. Annual salary range is $75,000 - $80,000.

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in EHS or related field; 3–5 years of relevant experience.

    + Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NYSDEC, and fire safety regulations.

    + Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    + Experience with budget oversight and safety software.

    + Valid NYS driver’s license.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Emergency management certifications (ICS 200/300).

    + Professional safety certifications (CSP, ASP).

    + OSHA HAZWOPER, EMT, or NYS Code Enforcement certifications.
