The NYU Post-Doctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis (https://as.nyu.edu/postdocpsychoanalytic.html) is an innovative, dynamic, internationally renowned psychoanalytic training program, located within a pre-eminent research university. Founded in 1961, Postdoc has among its faculty leading scholars and clinicians from a multiplicity of theoretical orientations, including, but not limited to, Contemporary Freudian, Interpersonal, Independent, and Relational. The Program has 133 teaching faculty, 143 clinical consultants, 116 candidates, and approximately 600 graduates.

Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, the Director oversees the program matriculants, Clinical Director, Faculty and Clinical Consultants and the Committees of the Program, including the Program’s Executive Committee. The Director is responsible for the Program budget, and will teach one course or the equivalent per semester in the program. The Director additionally conceives and implements fund-raising initiatives; maintains the Program’s state and national psychoanalytic accreditations; and represents and promotes the Program both within the University and at local, national, and international meetings.

The program invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Program. We are seeking to fill a position for a full-time Clinical Faculty Member. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (Psychology preferred), have graduated from a psychoanalytic institute at least five years prior, and have a license that permits the practice of psychoanalysis.

The initial appointment will be for one to three-year term, subject to renewal for subsequent multi-year terms. The appointment will start on September 1, 2022, pending budgetary and administrative approval.

The successful candidate will have teaching experience, and have demonstrated distinguished scholarship, immersion in the theory and practice of psychoanalysis; a passionate engagement with the field and its ongoing development, and a proven commitment to issues of diversity and to fostering psychoanalytic models for underrepresented populations. The Director must be an energetic and skilled leader who is sophisticated in negotiating complex interpersonal situations and able to delegate responsibilities.

Review of applications begins December 15, 2021 and will remain open until the position is filled. Applications received by January 30, 2022 will receive fullest review. To apply, submit a cover letter that reflects on relevant experience; CV, three letters of recommendations; and a publication that exemplifies your writing. As diversity is an important part of the NYU mission, in the statement of teaching philosophy, we ask you to provide a brief paragraph telling us how diversity figures into your past and present teaching, research, community engagement, and/or life experience, as well as how you would bring issues of diversity to bear on the leadership, teaching, and programming of the program.
