Job:Pathologist Assistant
Hours:M-F Roughly 08:00am-4:00PM

POSITION SUMMARY:The Pathologist’s Assistant will perform numerous support duties for the Pathologists and the department of PathologyServices.These include, but are not limited to, surgical specimen management and grossing, frozen sectioning, photography, autopsy, and equipment and supply maintenance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
+ Manages surgical specimens, verifying identity, proper accessioning and handling, and completion of necessary documentation.
+ Performs and dictates the gross inspection of pathology specimens and prepares tissue for processing.
+ Performs photography and maintains database of digital photographs.
+ Manages the proper release of patient remains including appropriate documentation and coordination with internal resources, funeral homes and official agencies as needed.
+ Maintains proper cleanliness, equipment and supplies for gross room, morgue and frozen section rooms.
+ Consults with Pathologists and Histotechnologists for problem solving and appropriate case management.
+ Provides accurate and timely documentation for all areas of responsibility.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Graduate of approved NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant Training program or B.S. with minimum of 3 years of experience in the field.
+ Must be eligible for AAPA Fellowship Examination and successfully complete that exam within 1 year of employment.
+ A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ 1-3 years of clinical experience in the field
