The team also actively collaborates with partner platform teams to ensure we continue to deliver the best experience to our sellers and our customers.
What you’ll do
As a Backend Staff Engineer, you will:
Platform Architecture & Design:
+ Lead the design and evolution of highly scalable, fault-tolerant microservice architectures to support seller lifecycle workflows (listings, pricing, inventory, orders).
+ Define service boundaries, data models, API contracts, and integration patterns that ensure low latency and high throughput at scale.
Core Service Development:
+ Implement and optimize core Java/Spring Boot services, ensuring best practices in performance tuning, resource utilization, and thread safety.
+ Build robust data ingestion and processing pipelines that integrate with Kafka streams, relational and NoSQL stores, and the central Data Layer Platform.
Event-Driven & Stream Processing:
+ Architect and build event-based systems that react to marketplace events in real time, using technologies such as Apache Kafka, Flink, or Spark Streaming.
+ Design stream processing topologies to perform real-time transformations, enrichments, and aggregations, ensuring end-to-end exactly-once semantics and fault tolerance.
Operational Excellence:
+ Establish and enforce SLAs, SLOs, and SLI monitoring for backend and streaming services using Prometheus, Grafana, or similar observability tools.
+ Drive continuous improvement in deployment automation (CI/CD), canary rollouts, and automated rollback strategies to minimize production impact.
Security & Compliance:
+ Embed security best practices into service implementations, including authentication/authorization (OAuth2, JWT), encryption in transit and at rest, and vulnerability scanning.
+ Partner with Security and Compliance teams to ensure auditability, data governance, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
Mentorship & Collaboration:
+ Mentor peers and junior engineers on backend and event-driven architecture best practices, coding standards, and architectural trade-offs.
+ Collaborate with frontend, data, DevOps, and product teams to align on end-to-end solutions and deliver cohesive feature sets.
