    Job Description

    The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City clean, safe, and healthy by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning streets, attacking the scourge of illegal dumping, and clearing snow and ice. The Department operates 59 district garages and manages a fleet of more than 2,000 rear-loading collection trucks, 450 mechanical brooms, 705 salt spreaders, and several dozen bike lane operations machines. Under the Adams Administration, the Department is aggressively cleaning more parts of the city than ever before, including over 1,000 long-ignored areas spread across every neighborhood. With the highest wintertime uniformed headcount in 20 years, DSNY is more equipped than ever to remove snow and ice from the approximately 19,000 lane miles of City streets.

     

    Reporting directly to the Assistant Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Engineering, the Director of Engineering for Export Engineering (EE) will oversee the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Department’s solid waste Transfer Station and Marine Transfer Stations. The Director of Engineering manages and directs EE staff prepare work plans, perform contract procurement, oversee design and construction, monitor project budget and schedule, and assigns personnel to projects involved in a large-scale design and construction program.

     

    The Director of Engineering is responsible for planning, design, construction, and maintenance engineering activities as well as contract administration. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

     

    - Oversees planning, design, construction, maintenance, and repair of solid waste management facilities.

     

    - Coordinates and facilitates team efforts with all stakeholders to define project scope/goals, budget, and schedule.

     

    - Ensures project delivery complies with the technical and administrative terms of each respective contract.

     

    - Engages in field investigation, survey, and inspection for facility improvement.

     

    - Collaborate with other units and Bureaus and with other City agencies to fulfill EE priorities.

     

    - Manages a team of staff and consultants/contractors to execute tasks related to solid waste management facilities.

    ADMINISTRATIVE ENGINEER - 10015

    Qualifications

    1. A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
