    Job Summary

    The Athletics Department is seeking a Director for Compliance. This will be a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

     

    The mission of the OSU Department of Athletics is to Go Build Excellent, Authentic, Visionary Student-Athletes (GO B.E.A.V.S.).     The Director of Athletics Compliance ensures institutional compliance with department, institutional, state, federal, NCAA and conference guidelines. They assist the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Sport Services with the overall operations of athletics compliance including compliance-related projects and other duties as assigned. Individual will oversee day-to-day compliance operations for assigned teams including maintenance of student systems, interpretive responses, waivers, monitoring and education. This individual works closely with coaches, student-athletes and staff and will be prepared to advance professionally.

     

    The Director of Athletics Compliance plays a critical role in recruiting including supporting coach strategy, coordinating eligibility screenings, meeting with recruits, and facilitating matriculation to Oregon State University.

     

    The Director will be a part of a staff culture that prioritizes authentic relationship-building, open discussion, efficient problem solving and adaptation. This position best fits a professional with established broad, working knowledge of NCAA legislation who is ready to deepen their knowledge in support of elite athletics teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    75% Compliance Program for Assigned Sports

     

    + Manage a portfolio as the primary contact and provide compliance oversight for 5-6 NCAA Division I Sports

    + Cultivate strong interpersonal relationships with assigned coaches and student-athletes

    + Provide NCAA Bylaw and PAC12 policy education, rules interpretation as well as processing waivers and violations

    + Coordinate day-to-day compliance activities: Serve as liaison with campus units such as the registrar, admissions, campus housing, financial aid, international admissions, and international student services and Academics for Student-Athletes

    + Provide legislative and interpretive guidelines for the institution,

    + Monitor and communicate potential changes to NCAA legislation or other applicable policy

    + Track and monitor violation trends or other sport-specific issues

     

    20% Camps & Clinics

     

    + Serves as department lead for camps and clinics and transcript evaluation processing

     

    5% Other Duties as Assigned

     

    + Other NCAA compliance and sport service duties as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Sport Services.

    What You Will Need

    + Bachelor’s Degree in related field

    + One year experience within Division I compliance (includes time as a Division I student-athlete, athletics internships, Graduate Assistantship or full-time/part-time work)

    + Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

    + Experience working effectively with coaches, student-athletes and staff

    + Excellent interpersonal skills with desire to work with diverse constituencies

    + Demonstrated ability to understand and support the strategic goals of the university articulated in the strategic plan titled Prosperity Widely Shared.

     

    This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

    What We Would Like You to Have

    + Master’s Degree in related field.

    + One year or more working fulltime in Division I NCAA compliance office

    + Experience with Teamworks Compliance + Recruiting

    + Experience filing NCAA legislative relief waivers, Progress Towards Degree, medical hardship and/or medical absence waivers

    Working Conditions / Work Schedule

    This position is mostly sedentary but may be required to stand at games and events. Some non-standard hours (i.e. weekends, evening events) will be required.
