    To ensure that all procedures involving ionizing radiation are executed in accordance with regulatory requirements.

     

    **St. George** is in beautiful Southern Utah and boasts over 300 days of sunshine! We are also within one hour of Brian Head Ski Resort for winter sports activities.

    **St. George Regional Hospital** was the recipient of the 2024 Vizient Top Performing Hospitals. The radiation oncology department also partners with the nearby CAMPEP-accredited UNLV Medical Physics program. You will have the opportunity to work with residents and help develop them as medical physicists.

     

    Scope

     

    The Intermountain Health Hospital System is seeking an ABR Certified or Board eligible Medical Physicist for an immediate opening in St George, Utah. The physicist will join a team of 4 physicians, 2 physicists and 3 dosimetrists that cover two sites in St George and Cedar City. The Hospitals are currently equipped with two Varian Truebeams, an iX which will be replaced with a TrueBeam this year, VisionRT SGRT, a Bravos HDR unit and a GE wide bore CT with gating capabilities. Active programs include frameless cranial SRS with HyperArc and Hypersight, SBRT, tattoo-free SGRT setup, gated treatments, HDR for gyn, prostates and skin. R&V and TPS provided by Aria and Eclipse v18 with GPU acceleration.

     

    We are seeking a candidate that is experienced and comfortable in a busy and varied clinical environment, puts patients first, enjoys supporting a team, but is comfortable working independently.

    Job Details

    + **Location:** Intermountain Health St George Hospital

    + **Scheduled Weekly Hours:** 40 hrs/wk, full-time

    Essential Functions

    + Acts as Radiation Safety Officer to coordinate and enforce radiation safety matters as they relate to Radiation Control Rules within the state of practice. Writes and amends radioactive materials licenses as needed.

    + Writes, updates, and amends the Radiation Safety Manual, and enforces its provisions.

    + Be a member of the Radiation Safety Committee that oversees all uses of byproduct material permitted by the license.

    + Interacts with state and federal agencies in all matters pertaining to radiation control regulations.

    + Accountable for the proper acquisition, transfer, and/or disposal of radioactive material, as well as site decommissioning related to radioactive materials.

    + Responsible for oversight and training of non-radiology users of radiation-producing equipment.

    + Performs required periodic surveys, including annual survey meter checks, quarterly Nuclear Medicine audits, and quarterly, semi-annual, and annual quality control checks. Oversees the Personnel Radiation Monitoring TLD program and performs unintended and fetal dose calculations as Necessary.

    + Communication and Environment of Care: Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with government regulators, doctors, and patients. Ensures a functional, radiation-safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in health physics, medical physics, other physical science, engineering, or applied mathematics from an accredited university (education will be verified).

    + Is certified by one of the following specialty boards recognized by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and agreement states as meeting necessary. education and training requirements (including recent training requirements).

    + American Board of Health Physics (ABHP)

    + American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP)

    + American board of Science in Nuclear Medicine (ABSNM)

    + Or has completed a structured educational program with a minimum of 200 hours of classroom and laboratory training that meets the requirements of 10 CFR 35 subparts B and D through H. (i) Radiation physics and instrumentation, (ii) Radiation protection, (iii) Mathematics pertaining to the use and measurement of radioactivity, (iv) Radiation Biology, (v) Radiation dosimetry.

    + And has one year of full-time radiation safety experience performing similar functions as, and under the supervision of, the designated Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or Associate Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO). Formal written attestation of training and competency will be required.

    + Demonstrated experience using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

    + Demonstrated experience effectively working as part of a team and communicating orally and in writing.

    + Experience of excellent problem-solving skills and ability to handle and manage conflict.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience with and certification to perform annual equipment physics testing

    + Experience with and certification to perform MQSA mammography equipment testing.

    + Experience with and certification to perform ACR equipment evaluations.

    + Recognized as a Qualified Expert in the State of practice

    Physical Requirements:

    Physical Requirements

    + Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

    + Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

    + Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

    + Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

    + Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.).

    + May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

    + For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

     

    $97.15 - $149.93
