Summary

We are looking for an **Archeological Support Technician** who will assist professional archaeologists in fieldwork, lab analysis, and documentation associated with archaeological investigations. This includes Phase I surveys, Phase II testing, and Phase III data recovery. The technician is responsible for supporting cultural resource management (CRM) projects by performing both field and laboratory tasks under supervision.

Responsibilities

+ Responsible for assisting with archaeological surveys, testing, and excavation activities.

+ Works under the direction of the Project Archaeologist and the Branch Manager.

+ Use archaeological tools and methods.

+ Conduct archaeological field methodologies, including shovel test pits and moving wheelbarrows.

+ Record field data accurately, including GPS mapping, photo documentation, and artifact cataloging.

+ Excavate and document archaeological features using proper scientific techniques.

+ Process, clean, label, and analyze recovered archeological artifacts in a laboratory setting.

+ Enter and maintain field notes and lab records in both digital and paper formats.

+ Maintain organized project files, prepare site forms, reports, and other documents.

+ Assist with QC on data and documentation.

+ Assist with job setup, including data entry and organizing project logistics.

+ Support scheduling of field technicians and coordination of equipment and vehicle needs.

+ Track time, expenses, and field data for invoicing and project reporting.

+ Help prepare technical deliverables such as site forms, tables, appendices, and maps.

+ Communicate regularly with project managers and team members to ensure timelines and client expectations are met.

+ Maintain quality standards on all projects.

+ Transport tools, materials, and equipment to and from field locations as needed.

+ Maintain or repair field and lab equipment.

+ Adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures during fieldwork.

+ Willingness to travel up to 60%.

+ Report any safety concerns to management.

+ Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

+ Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)

+ Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).

+ Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.

+ Familiarity with artifact identification, soils, archaeological field methods, and tools.

+ Experience with GIS, GPS, Adobe and Statistical Analysis.

+ Competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and digital data entry tools.

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.

+ Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and in office environments with a flexible or extended schedule when required.

+ Strong observational and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Previous experience in the A/E/C industry.

+ Knowledge of Florida state and federal cultural resource regulations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

+ Must be able to hike over rough terrain and in remote areas for extended periods, sometimes in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).

+ Ability to carry up to 40–50 pounds of equipment, supplies, and soil samples regularly.

+ Physical ability to walk long distances, carry equipment, and perform manual excavation.

+ Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, and dig for extended periods of time during excavation activities.

+ Requires repetitive hand and arm movements for tasks such as screening soil and artifact processing.

+ Must have good visual acuity to identify and record archaeological materials and features.

+ Ability to sit or stand for extended periods when working in laboratory or office environments.

+ May require driving long distances or riding in vehicles over unpaved roads to reach remote sites.
