    Position Summary:

    Reporting directly to the President, the Chief Engagement Officer & Assistant Vice President for Development works to advance the brand equity, visual appeal, and eco-system of positive relationships for the Arkansas State University System. The position is a member of the ASU System Executive Leadership Team and works collaboratively with the Vice Presidents, Chancellors, members of the Board of Trustees, system constituents, leaders, and industry partners to ensure achievement of the System’s mission and goals as they relate to brand development and corporate support. Brand is constituted by quality, effectiveness and affinity.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Chief Engagement Officer

    • Provide oversight and strategy regarding the elevation of brand and brand experiences from a system-level perspective

    • Advance and provide creative support for experiential learning initiatives and scaffolds on behalf of the ASU System including, but not limited to approaches such as co-op style education and employment coupling, apprenticeship model across curriculum, strategic intersections with employers, etc.

    • Collaboratively drives brand strategy for the System including planning, coordination with institutional leaders and implementation. Works directly with ASU System member institutions through coordinated leadership that implements and manages standards of practice as the modern world requires advanced brand strategy for institutions of higher education to be competitive. Elevating the visual identity and brand strategy across the ASU System by setting and advancing standards for placemaking, institutional branding, and digital presence. This includes cultivating best practices for brand management across all platforms—websites, digital media, signage, and identity differentiation—ensuring seamless integration, distinctiveness, and aesthetic consistency.

    • Collaboratively curates identifiable elements of a distinctive ASU System brand experience.

    • Leads the development of system-wide brand experience (cultivating the feel of ASU System institutions). Examples may include: social impact initiatives; activating art and artists to enhance community connection; engagement and elevate visual experiences on campuses; creating movements of people throughout the university system that commit to working together on a common project (community building); elevation of visual culture, etc.

    Fundraising, development and community relations

    • Provide strategic leadership in development and select community engagement initiatives of the ASU System and ASU System President.

    • Represent the ASU System and foster positive relationships with an emphasis on members of the Board of Directors for the ASU System Foundation and ASU System Board of Trustees, as well as various internal and external groups including alumni, students, community and business leaders, donors, board members, etc., with particular attention to foster corporate support for higher education in Arkansas through the ASU System.

    • Assist the President in planning and preparing for major signature events that advance the ASU System brand and reputation.

    • Work closely with the President, Board leaders, and other key stakeholders on fundraising efforts in support of the ASU System strategic priorities.

    • In concert with the President, develop and implement strategy for fundraising activities, major and planned gift solicitations, campaigns, corporate giving and other related initiatives.

    • Maintain a personal prospect portfolio of principal gift prospects with a specific focus on corporate giving.

    Operations and Strategic Initiatives

    • Create and provide oversight and management of the ASU System headquarters internship program and student employment initiatives.

    • Leads and provides oversight of event management in the ASU System office including

    • Oversight of building and managing the program to leverage the Little Rock System office space for campus-relevant events to bolster community engagement and connection.

    • Oversight of building and managing the program to leverage the Little Rock System office space for external partner events to bolster brand awareness and partner network.

    • Bring perspective and counsel as a member of the ASU System Executive Leadership Team.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    Deep knowledge of institutional branding, visual identity systems, digital and physical brand applications, and how these elements drive reputation and engagement in higher education.

     

    Expertise in corporate giving, principal gift cultivation, donor relations, campaign planning, and foundation engagement.

     

    Understanding of system-level operations in higher education, especially related to governance, inter-institutional collaboration, and stakeholder engagement.

     

    Awareness of how institutions connect with alumni, donors, and industry partners through events, campaigns, and strategic outreach.

     

    Familiarity with planning, coordinating, and executing events that elevate brand presence and deepen institutional relationships.

    Monday-Friday

     

    8:00am-5:00pm

    Minimum Qualifications:

    A Master's degree with a minimum of ten (10) years of industry and/or higher education administrative leadership experience specifically focused on brand strategy and visual elevation is required.

     

    Higher education experience in development, fundraising and signature event planning and management. Preferred experience in a higher education system.

     

    Outstanding verbal and written communications skills are required. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.

     

    Preferred candidate is task oriented with a high level of motivation to ensure that outcomes have been appropriately coordinated and successfully implemented.

     

    Demonstrated management skills in goal-setting, staff supervision, and evaluation are required.

     

    Preferred qualifications: branding and development of international educational sites and campuses. Work coordinating communities of visual artists around institutional placemaking
