    Summary This position is with the Maintenance and Repair (M&R) work unit, within the Facilities Management Services department service line within the Erie VA Medical Center (VAMC). The incumbent supervises and directs building maintenance, repairs, and installations of the Maintenance Unit, throughout the medical center and associated properties. The incumbent will primarily assigned to the main campus; however, may required to work at the other outlying Erie VAMC clinics and administrative space. Responsibilities Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Supervisor/PD009080 Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. Major duties: Performs as a Supervisor, in full charge of the M&R work unit. This consists of the General Repair and Building Maintenance Units, including (but not limited to) Maintenance Mechanics, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electric, Machine, Paint, Data and Wire, Fire-life safety, and HVAC shops. Responsible to oversee, manage and coordinate, schedule, and execute budgets for: multi-discipline repairs, station funded projects (repair and renovation), small NRM work projects and maintenance contracts. The will serve as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for such projects ensuring credit cards, contracting, fiscal and FMS management policy are followed and complied with. Develops and presents, for final approval, the operations recurring maintenance, and small funded projects (repair and renovation), small NRM work projects and maintenance contracts. Receives assignments, both orally and in writing. Responsible for planning, tracking and reporting progress on work assignments. Request authority to use overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules in accordance with the facility priorities. Plan preventive and predictive maintenance to minimize the risk of unplanned building systems failures. Recommend changes to schedules, priorities, work sequences as necessary to the benefit of the hospital and make minor deviations in procedures or redirect resources under their control to overcome problems such as equipment failure, material delays, or unplanned absences. Coordinate utility shutdowns, including but not limited to; preparing and submitting outrage request documents, preparing interim life safety measures (ILSM) plans, filing compete outage requests within the time submission requirements, researching utilities and as-built conditions, scheduling, identifying maintenance staff needed and physically performing utility shutdowns. Coordinates with Police and FMS Operations for after-hour repairs and maintenance for emergent and scheduled repair work needed to maintain hospital operation and statute compliance. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, often in hard to reach places. Frequently handles, lifts, carries equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds and chemicals that weight up to 120 pounds. Much of the work is done on ladders, scaffolds and platforms. Incumbent is standing or walking much of the time and must be in good overall physical condition. Physical capability to regularly walk long distances, dexterity and accurate hand-eye coordination, and corrected 20/20 vision and accurate color perception are required. Must be physically able in body to direct the accomplishment of the above work as well as to communicate directions over the telephone. Must be capable of standing, bending, climbing ladders and scaffolds, and in general have use of his/her limbs. Working Conditions: This position requires working overtime as needed, being available to address both planned and unplanned work. The work environment also includes working during off tour periods to address emergent issues that can arise at any day or time. Work involves frequent walking, standing and sedentary desk work. Occasionally requires stooping, bending working on ladders or scaffolds, working in cramped or awkward positions. Subject to hazardous conditions, working under extreme temperatures, hot and colds; and in inclement weather. Must be aware of this and be able to cope with same. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruised and broken bones. May also be exposed to contagious disease when working in patient area. Safety procedures must be followed and appropriate protective safe gear must we worm, as required for the specific work area task. Must visit all those areas where subordinates will be working for instructions and/or inspection. Education No positive education requirement for this vacancy.
