    Position Overview

    The Underwriting Team Coordinator serves as the central point of contact for internal underwriting referrals and external agent inquiries. Youll help underwriters focus on production by managing the inbound flow of questions, requests for reconsideration, and exception referrals that require carrier approval. At the same time, youll support agents/brokers by helping them navigate our underwriting appetite, quote pipeline, and escalation pathsall while upholding underwriting integrity.

     

    This is a relationship-forward, problem-solving roleideal for someone who knows how to say no without burning a bridge, and yes when theres a compliant path forward.

     

    Breakdown of Responsibilities

     

    20%: Reviewing and sending individual referrals to carriers.

     

    5-10%: Monitoring referral process.

     

    30%: External facing, dealing with brokers.

     

    10%: Clean up, ensuring files and referrals are in order.

     

    20%: Outbound/marketing, optional travel for training in NY.

    Key Responsibilities

    Manage Referrals: Track internal referrals and submissions outside guidelines.

     

    First Point of Contact: Support agents needing updates or clarification.

     

    Communicate Clearly: Resolve agent inquiries with underwriters.

     

    Present Referrals: Submit special requests to carriers with full context.

     

    Educate Agents: Teach program requirements and common pitfalls.

     

    Support Underwriters: Minimize distractions by handling agent communications.

     

    Improve Processes: Enhance agent experience and clarify processes.

     

    Travel: Occasionally for meetings, conferences, or training.

    Skills and Requirements

     

    - Experience: 2+ years in underwriting.

     

    - Familiarity with garage liability, auto dealer, or related commercial auto insurance programs

     

    - Strong communication and relationship management skills

     

    - Auto Dealer Underwriting: Experience and understanding of franchise vs. auto dealer.

     

    - Multi-Line Underwriting: Knowledge of auto and general liability, garage liability.

     

    - Garage Liability: Minimum 6 months experience.

     

    - Problem-Solving: Proven ability with compliant solutions.

     

    - Volume: Handle 20/week.

     

    - Work-Life Balance: M-F, no weekend work.

     

    - Location: East coast preferred, ideally Long Island.

     

    - Proactive: Comfortable picking up the phone. - Prior underwriting support, referral handling, or broker service experience

     

    - Ability to read and interpret underwriting guidelines

    - Experience in a high-touch, referral-heavy commercial lines environment null
