    + $75,000 - $95,000 depending upon experience and qualifications

    + 215 Day Contract

    Hiring Specifications:

    + Iowa BoEE Teacher License with Special Education Endorsement and/or Supervisor of Special Education, current or previously held (required)

    + Masters in Educational Leadership (preferred)

    + Successful teaching experience in Special Education (preferred)

    Basic Function:

    The North Polk Community School District is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to be the district’s Special Education Coordinator. This position will lead, coordinate, and manage all aspects of the district's K-12 special education programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of special education law and best practices, a commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs, and the desire to be part of a team. This full-time leadership position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, developing individualized education programs (IEPs), and promoting inclusive practices across all grade levels.

    Essential Functions:

    + Collaborate with district personnel and oversee student assignments and special education program placements, including co-teaching models and IEP-based instructional needs.

    + Collaborate with other district personnel for the purpose of initiating, implementing and/or maintaining services and programs including articulation of special education continuum of services and teacher assignments as they relate to co-teaching.

    + Manage the special education department for the purpose of delivering services that conform to established local, state and federal guidelines.

    + Attend various meetings (e.g. DMACC STRIVE IEP meetings, due process IEP meetings, potential change of placement IEP meetings, problem solving IEP meetings, Open-Enrolled Out IEP meetings etc) for the purpose of providing direction and making recommendations.

    + Oversee the assignment of students and placement of Special Education programs

    + Oversee alternative classroom spaces and offsite specially designed instruction as required by IEPs

    + Plan and provide professional development and coaching in collaboration with administration to support instructional strategies, intervention techniques, and compliance with special education requirements.

    + Monitor the IDEA system (ACHIEVE) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and compliance with local, state and federal pupil accounting guidelines.

    + Provide monthly checks of school based providers for the purpose of Medicaid billing.

    + Provide ongoing and systematic professional development for administrators and special education paraeducator staff for the purpose of program and pupil accounting compliance, student placement and staffing allocations.

    + Coordinate Extended School Year services (ESY), Homebound Instruction, and alternative placement for special education students as necessary.

    + Assist the Director of Transportation in establishing appropriate transportation for students in Special Education programs as required by the IEP.

    + Manage all special education state reporting including, but not limited to, certified special education headcount and IDEA Part B.

    + Monitor and/or oversee alternate assessments.

    + Assist in collecting and analyzing district and state level data for norming purposes.

    + Provides and signs off on Special Education Contracts for tuition in/out.

    + Serve as a resource to interested citizens and organizations regarding all aspects of Special Education.

    Other functions/responsibilities:

    + Knowledge of legal issues and requirements related to special education.

    + Knowledge of special education programs and services.

    + Demonstrated skills in facilitation, conflict resolution and adult learning.

    + Demonstrated skills in data gathering and analysis, project planning and evaluation.

    + Demonstrated skills in working with district staff on curriculum implementation.

    + Effective oral and written communication skills.

    + Word-processing skills and knowledge of student information systems such as Infinite Campus, and IMS Systems.

    + Ability to promote and follow Board of Education Policies, Superintendent Policies, building and department procedures.

    + Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for education enrichment.

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
