    High School Guidance Counselor Job Description Position OverviewThe High School Guidance Counselor is responsible for providing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses students' academic, career, and personal/social development needs. This role involves delivering direct counseling services, developing and implementing guidance programs, and collaborating with school staff and families to support student success. Key Responsibilities Academic Support

     

    + Assist students in selecting appropriate courses and planning for graduation.

    + Monitor students' academic progress and intervene when necessary.

    + Coordinate standardized testing and interpret results to assist students in setting goals.

    + Provide academic advising to help students set realistic academic goals.

    Career and College Guidance

    + Facilitate career exploration and college admission processes.

    + Assist students with college applications, providing guidance on meeting application requirements and deadlines.

    + Offer career counseling to help students explore potential career paths and vocational training opportunities.

    Personal and Social Development

    + Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address personal, social, and emotional issues.

    + Provide crisis intervention and support to students facing emergencies or trauma.

    + Promote mental health awareness and educate students on coping strategies.

    + Facilitate conflict resolution between students, mediating disputes and promoting positive communication.

    Collaboration and Advocacy

    + Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.

    + Advocate for students' needs and rights within the school system and the wider community.

    + Refer students to external support services and resources as needed.

    Professional Development

    + Stay updated on educational policies and best practices.

    + Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.

    Qualifications

    + Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.

    + Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
