Job Description
We’re seeking a dedicated and detail- oriented Unit Clerk to join our Skilled Nursing Facility healthcare team at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY. In this role, you’ll be essential to the smooth operation of the nursing unit, managing clerical tasks, facilitating communication, and providing administrative support to ensure exceptional patient care. Schedule: Day Shift, Monday through Friday
What You’ll Do: • Support the nursing team with daily clerical duties under supervision of the Unit Director or Charge Nurse • Handle incoming calls, route messages, and maintain smooth communication between departments • Coordinate patient appointments, admissions, discharges, and transfers • Maintain accurate patient charts and records • Assist with inventory and supply management for the unit • Prepare daily reports, schedules, and documentation • Greet and assist visitors, offering clear directions and support • Ensure orderly maintenance of unit and coordinate repair needs • Provide backup coverage for other Unit Clerks as needed • Manage resident belongings and clothing labeling for long- term care patients • Enter lab work, file reports, and ensure timely communication of lab results • Complete timecards, locker assignments, and staff attendance records • Attend required annual educational programs and CPR certification
What We’re Looking For: • High school diploma or equivalent required • 2– 3 years of hospital or healthcare clerical experience preferred • Familiarity with medical terminology and hospital procedures strongly preferred • Proficient in computer entry and general office equipment
Other Requirements: • Strong language and communication skills • Must be able to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations • Requires access to and handling of confidential patient information
• Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment • Must demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and tact • CPR certification required within 90 days of hire
