    Job Description:

    Summary

    The Cyclone Support Specialist (Student Services Specialist I) plays a vital role in advancing student success and retention at Iowa State University through proactive outreach, personalized support, and strategic coordination. This position leads efforts to establish a staffing and referral model that enhances coordination of care for students, while also increasing student help-seeking behaviors and effective use of campus resources.

     

    Using technology-enabled tools and data-driven processes, the specialist conducts direct outreach to students to connect them with services that support their academic and personal well-being. The role includes serving as a knowledgeable liaison between students and campus departments, documenting interactions in the student success platform (EAB Navigate), and contributing to the continuous improvement of intervention strategies.

     

    In addition to outreach the specialist coordinates staffing operations within Cyclone Support Central including recruiting, training, and supervising student staff, managing intake and referral processes, and supporting drop-in student needs. The specialist will facilitate cross-campus collaboration, training, and communication efforts that promote student success initiatives and strengthen referral networks.

     

    This position requires a student-centered mindset, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

     

    This role is a one-year term position with a possibility for renewal.

     

    Level Guidelines• Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision• Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode• Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope• Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained• Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate• May lead projects of limited scope and complexity• May provide guidance to students
