Laboratory Supervisor

Westfield, MA

WEPCO is seeking an experienced Laboratory Supervisor to directly oversee our Quality Control Department.

Responsibilities include: Supervision and coordination of activities for personnel engaged in performing chemical and physical tests required for quality control of processes and products. In addition, overseeing required department maintenance while adhering to strict safety procedures/protocols mandated for hazardous chemicals.

The qualified applicant should have at least an Associate Degree in Chemistry or other physical science and basic laboratory experience, however previous electroplating experience is not required, and training will be provided.

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, work independently with without constant supervision, possess good oral and written communication skills, excellent math skills, PC computer skills, along with a strong desire to learn.

Tasks:

+ Direct and advise personnel in special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of materials.

+ Compile and analyze test information to determine operating efficiency of processes, equipment and diagnose malfunctions.

+ Confer with quality engineers to conduct analysis, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests.

+ Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations.

+ Analyze and resolve work problems and assist workers in solving work problems.

+ Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses or chemical experiments in laboratories for quality, process control or to develop new products or knowledge.

+ Analyze organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties, composition, structure, relationships, and reactions, utilizing chromatography, spectroscopy, and spectrophotometry techniques.

+ Induce changes in composition of substances by introducing heat, light, energy, and chemical catalysts for quantitative and qualitative analysis.

+ Develop, improve, and customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, and analytical methods.

+ Compile and analyze test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency and to diagnose malfunctions.

+ Prepare test solutions, compounds, and reagents for laboratory personnel to conduct test.

+ Direct, coordinate, and advise personnel in test procedures for analyzing components and physical properties of materials.

May Also Include:

+ Adjust formulas and processes based on test results. Test and analyze sample products.

+ Prepare test solutions, compounds, and reagents for use by laboratory personnel in conducting tests.

+ Conduct research to develop custom products and investigate complaints on existing products.

+ Classifications are made according to process involved, craft of workers supervised, product manufactured, or according to industry in which work occurs.

+ Train new workers.
