Under the guidance of department leadership, the Laboratory Assistant will handle clerical and technical lab responsibilities, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks that surpass customer expectations. This role requires initiative, commitment to improving work processes, and alignment with the organization's mission and values. The Laboratory Assistant is essential in delivering life-saving diagnostic services to patients and healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
+ Ensure regulatory and compliance standards are met
+ Assist leadership in audit preparation
+ Ship, receive, and track specimens while preserving sample integrity
+ Classify and process specimens accurately and efficiently
+ Verify specimens and documentation for accuracy and completeness
+ Maintain sample identity and proper temperature handling
+ Conduct accurate data entry using relevant systems
+ Proofread documents for spelling, accuracy, and format
+ Prepare samples for laboratory testing as needed
+ Perform reagent preparation when necessary
+ Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain lab equipment
+ Identify and resolve sample discrepancies with clients
+ Provide professional phone and email customer support
+ Research and resolve issues with timely follow-up
+ Maintain and organize departmental records
+ Assist with reagent and supply inventory management
+ Work weekend and holiday shifts as scheduled
+ Train new team members as assigned
+ Keep up with competency and continuing education requirements
+ Follow all laboratory policies and procedures

Qualifications
+ High School diploma + 6+ months of experience in production or healthcare
+ Associate’s degree in life sciences or a science-related field with fast-paced experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field
+ Experience in phlebotomy, specimen processing, or healthcare
Work Environment
This position requires working Monday to Thursday from 8 PM – 6:30 AM. The lab includes a reference lab, HLA (DNA testing), and testing labs, serving Versiti locations across Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. Dress code options include scrubs or business casual attire with long pants and closed-toe shoes. Equipment utilized includes centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, and microscopes.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $21.31/hr.
