Shipyard Laborer/Firewatch

Pay: $22/hr

**Job Summary:** We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Shipyard Laborer/Firewatch to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in assisting with the maintenance and repair of US Navy vessels. The ideal candidate will provide labor support for skilled marine trades personnel, Firewatch support for welders and other hot workers, and serve as a trades helper when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Labor Duties:

+ Setting up and cleaning up work sites.

+ Moving materials and equipment around the shipyard.

+ Performing heavy lifting tasks as required.

Firewatch Duties:

+ Removing flammable objects from a 30-foot radius around welders.

+ Standing watch with a fire extinguisher to address any flames or sparks.

+ Stopping the welder if necessary for safety reasons.

Trades Help Duties:

+ Assisting various marine trades personnel as needed.

+ Providing an extra set of hands to support skilled workers.

Work Environment:

+ The shipyard is a heavy industrial environment, which can be loud and dirty. It is advisable to always have a change of clothes in a backpack or assigned locker.

+ The ships are metal with ladders and space-efficient rooms, requiring comfort with climbing short ladders and working in smaller spaces.

Compensation and Schedule:

+ Starting pay is $22 per hour, with overtime pay at $33 per hour.

+ The shift is from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, amounting to approximately 20 hours of overtime per week.

+ Saturdays are mandatory if scheduled, with notification typically provided by mid-week.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
