    The Role

     

    This position supports the construction of Columbia Class modules in the JMAF and SJB where both early construction of the large structural hull sections are built in APCO fixtures, along with final assembly of the modules prior to shipment to Electric Boat (EB). This position requires a solid understanding of structural fabrication standards in support of JMAF work, along with a strong mechanical background to support final assembly of the units in the SJB.

     

    Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

     

    Must Have

     

    Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;

    Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;

    Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

     

    Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

     

    Nice to Have

     

    Construction or waterfront experience.

     

    Understanding of Tech Pub 1688, Pub 300 and NNS standard welding processes and procedures

     

    Strong mechanical background and a sound understanding of GD&T

     

    Familiarity with O68 metrology surveys and the ability to interpret and provide direction based on survey results

     

    Strong communication and ability to effectively communicate technical concerns to production and the design yard

     

    Understanding of the SUBSAFE program
