DESCRIPTION
The Library, Arts and Culture Department has an immediate opportunity for an unclassified, full-time, grant funded Literacy Coordinator (COMMUNITY PROGRAM SPECIALIST II). Under general supervision, the Literacy Coordinator will provide increasingly complex professional support in the development and implementation the Library's LB Reads adult literacy program. LB Reads is a 1-on-1 literacy tutoring program that helps English speaking adults improve their reading and writing skills so they can reach their potential as workers, parents, community members, and lifelong learners. This position will report to the Billie Jean King Main Library, located at 200 W. Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90802, but may be required to work and/or travel to various library locations across the City.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
+ Provides professional support in the development and implementation of library literacy initiatives
+ Conducts outreach and marketing;
+ Onboards learners and tutors;
+ Prepares statistical and narrative reports;
+ Assists with California Library Literacy Services (CLLS) programs such as English as a Second Language (ESL) program and Career Online High School (COHS);
+ Assists in program design, development, and evaluation;
+ Coordinates California State Library grant funded literacy programs;
+ Manages the program budget and monitors grant compliance;
+ Maintains client and program files and reports for grant programs;
+ Researches and analyzes data using a systematic and logical approach;
+ Works as part of a state-wide committee to develop literacy curriculum;
+ Oversees program volunteers;
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
+ Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Curriculum Instruction, Liberal Arts, Social Work, Public Administration, or closely related field. Experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
+ One (1) year full-time professional experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position. A Master’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, or closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required professional experience.
+ A valid driver's license or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel.
+ Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

+ Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

+ Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people by consistently exercising tact, good judgment, and a pro-active, problem-solving focused communication style;
+ Ability to operate office equipment including computers, printers, and copiers as well as word processing, spreadsheet, email, database, and program specific applications.
