Description of Work Unit
The Office of Engagement and Extension ( OEE ) was organized in 2006 to advance CSU’s engagement and outreach missions. OEE includes CSU Extension, CSU Extended Campus (including CSU Online), the Colorado Water Center and a variety of vibrant programs that engage the teaching, research, extension, and service missions of Colorado State University. The Vice President for Engagement and Extension ( VPEE ) is the principal administrative, academic, and fiscal officer for the division, reports to the CSU President, and works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice President. OEE works collaboratively across all Colleges and offices on campus, and has strong engagement programs throughout Colorado, the Western US and globally. At any given time, OEE includes over 400 employees. The total of budgets is approximately $85 million. OEE is one of the most institutionally comprehensive commitments to engagement and outreach among all land-grant and other universities. Propelled by OEE’s leadership, nationally CSU is a Carnegie Engaged University (2008, 2014), is a member of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium, is an APLU Innovation and Economic Prosperity University (2016) and is highly ranked for its online degree programs. Annually, CSU Extended Campus garners enrollments of over 10,000 learners and CSU Extension delivers approximately 500,000 educational contacts.
Garfield County is located in western Colorado and is experiencing a steady population and economic growth. According to the 2020 Census population, Garfield County has 61,685 residents, with 24% of the population being Spanish speakers. The communities in Garfield County (Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Silt, Rifle, Battlement Mesa and Parachute) have diverse economies, shopping opportunities, and housing choices. Garfield County is primarily rural, with 60% public land. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound and include hunting, fishing, hiking, rafting, biking, skiing, and other activities typically associated with Colorado. The Extension office is in the town of Rifle. Rifle offers easy access to a major interstate highway (I-70) and is within a one-hour drive time of the Grand Junction airport.

Position Summary
Colorado State University Extension and Garfield County are seeking a part-time Spanish Program Coordinator with the experience and skills to assist and lead a diverse and inclusive youth and adult programs. The person will have a proven track record of translating for programs or in-person consultations. The Community Coordinator will be an effective communicator with the experience and skills to engage with a variety of people and groups. They work as a member of the local county Extension team and as a local representative of Colorado State University. This individual will work under the programmatic guidance of the County Director and will regularly collaborate with other Extension Specialists across programming from within the Garfield County Extension Office.
Required Job Qualifications
+ High School Diploma (or GED )
+ Certified or qualified in Spanish translation or transcription.
+ 1+ years of professional experience relevant to theEssential Job Duties(below) of this position.
+ Course work and/or professional experience must provide a broad and significant understanding of Spanish translation or transcription associated with the position.
+ Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
+ The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; Extension will not sponsor a visa for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Completed at least two years of college.
+ Experience using computer and office equipment.

+ Recruit Spanish-speaking community participants and partners to be engaged in the learning environment, whether it is Spanish-specific or nitrated with English-speaking content.
+ Development relationships and establish partnerships with Spanish-speaking community partners to support the programming efforts and learning environment that CSU Extension has created in Garfield County.
+ Schedule and arrange appointments with Specialist and assist with translation.

+ Respond to client request for information regarding Garfield County Fair, 4-H programs, projects, etc.
+ Co-teach with Extension specialists at events and be able to provide Spanish specific content classes once trained with the curriculum provided.
+ Support translation and interpretation services as applicable to curriculum being used directly for teaching in Garfield County and interpretation services during program offering from Extension services in Garfield County and provide consultation for language access throughout the Western Region.

+ Engage and collaborate with community-based organizations and diverse constituents (representative of the county’s racial, ethnic and gender demographics) to understand community needs and develop support for existing and new program efforts.
+ Assist with the communication for 4-H, CMG , MFSA , and other volunteers.
+ Assist with the recruitment of volunteers for the Garfield County CSU Extension.
