Job Summary
Demonstrate the capacity to relate and communicate expert construction-related knowledge to others by creating, reviewing, and vetting project Constructability Scoping Reports in a highly collaborative fashion. Advance Transmission's goal to integrate construction methodology and planning into scoping activities from project inception to reduce costs and construct Transmission facilities safer and more efficiently. Maintain highly effective relationships and communications with various project stakeholders.
Job Description
This single vacancy is posted in two grade levels (grade 8 - sr and grade 9 - Prin** **). Relevant Education and/or Experience will be utilized to determine which of these will be the appropriate grade level to fill this** **vacancy.
What You'll Do:
+ Manage construction projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, safety, and economic efficiency.
+ Create and present Constructability Scoping Reports to the execution team, engaging with all project stakeholders during the scoping phase.
+ Maintain consistent direction for Constructability Scoping Reports across AEP Transmission, driving continuous improvement initiatives in logistics, processes, and documentation.
+ Collaborate with various stakeholders, including Project Management, Transmission & Distribution Operations, and Construction Management, to gather feedback and improve project outcomes.
+ Communicate updates and improvements in construction methods to Transmission Leadership and provide monthly reports on overall constructability development.
+ Develop and maintain relationships with strategic contractor partners, attending training events and local meetings to enhance collaboration and efficiency.
+ Conduct lessons learned meetings on completed projects, evaluating the effectiveness of constructability plans and identifying areas for improvement.
+ Stay updated on industry construction practices and technological advancements relevant to AEP Transmission.
+ Lead presentations and discussions at Semi-annual TCR conferences for assigned regions.
+ Review Capital Project P6 schedules to ensure timely development of Constructability Scoping Reports.
+ Conduct site visits as needed to support scoping teams and project evaluations.
+ Utilize Spin 360 and GIS technologies to plan and evaluate construction sequences, identifying potential hazards and bottlenecks.
+ Mentor Execution Project Managers in the construction planning process, leading special initiatives such as process improvements and Lean initiatives.
+ Attend monthly construction meetings to coordinate best practices and address field issues proactively.
+ Collaborate with regional material management leaders to identify and address potential material flow constraints in Constructability Scoping Reports.
Salary Range:
Grade 8 - $96,110.00 -124,940.00 USD
Grade 9 - $112,869.00 - 142,000.00 USD
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Construction Lead Sr.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Safety or related field and 6 years’ experience; **OR**
+ ABET accredited Associate degree in electrical, construction management, safety, civil engineering technology or related field of study and 8 years’ experience; **OR**
+ high school graduate or equivalent with 10 years of direct experience
Construction Lead Principal
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Safety or related field and 8 years’ experience; **OR**
+ ABET accredited Associate degree in electrical, construction management, safety, civil engineering technology or related field of study and 10 years’ experience; **OR**
+ high school graduate or equivalent with 12 years of direct experience
EXPERIENCE:
+ Related experience is defined as involvement with overseeing/directing transmission and distribution station construction and/or transmission line construction work, as an AEP/contractor line or station field employee or Construction Rep.
+ A thorough knowledge of the transmission system, from a design and operation perspective AND experience within transmission engineering, and/or construction management is desired to fulfill responsibilities of this job.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
+ Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, mentor, and train junior personnel.
+ Must be a team player, inquisitive, analytical, and be able to interact with and maintain working relationships with diverse teams.
+ Ability to read and interpret one-line station diagrams and transmission line switching diagrams, and anticipate proper clearance points and zones of protection.
+ Aptitude to understand and interpret conceptual scopes of work and visualize the safest and most effective method of construction and identify potential risks and hazards to be removed.
+ Capacity to lead in understanding, developing, and clearly presenting complicated construction sequencing to the project team.
+ Must have strong computer skills and able to grasp and use new technologies as they become available.
+ Strong analytical skills needed to visualize a conceptual project and how it will be built, able to visualize and plan for potential risks associated with the construction or proposed facilities.
+ Being able to conduct substation and transmission line site visits. Driving a vehicle long distances to conduct site visits.
+ Avid concentration levels. Decision making and collaborative skills in stressful situations.
