Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County has an opening for a full-time Agriculture Program Coordinator working from the Jamestown, NY office.
The Agriculture Program Coordinator provides program coordination and support to the agriculture program and facilitates the dissemination of information to the residents of Chautauqua County. This position will also collaborate with the Lake Erie Regional Grape team, Cornell Vegetable team and the Southwest NY Dairy Livestock Field Crops Regional teams on programming within the county.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Associate’s or Equivalent Education. (GED/High School Diploma with one-year transferrable program/functional experience may substitute).• Experience relevant to the role of the position.• Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.• Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.• Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.• Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written and visual channels using traditional methods and educational tools, as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).• Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community, and funding partners.• Ability to organize, implement, and teach, informal educational programs.• Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.• Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community, and professional leaders.• Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.• Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience in guiding and collaborating with volunteers.• Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations. • Ability to identify and utilize program resources from the organization and the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Program Delivery - 10%• Deliver high quality, existing Agriculture related educational programs and activities that address identified programming priorities. • Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver program.• Conduct in-service trainings for volunteers and distribute subject matter resources/materials.• Serve as subject matter resource, utilizing established program resources and materials, to provide information and resources to program participants. • Support and assist with collaborative efforts with the Lake Erie Regional Grape team, Cornell Vegetable team and the Southwest NY Dairy Livestock Field Crops Regional team. • Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences through frequent contact with program participants, parents, and volunteers. • Interact with program participants, parents, and volunteers representing CCE in a professional manner at all times. Presents as a positive role model for participants in all program activities and programs.• Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery. Administrative Direction - 5%• Assist with development of marketing strategies, public affairs, and special events to reach target audiences and meet program objectives.• Assist with planning and strategy development to strengthen and improve programs, as necessary. • May assist with financial direction of program to include planning for program expenses and budgets as well as financial resources for program continuance and enhancement.• Working under the established guidelines, develop and enhance relationships with appropriate volunteers, agencies, organizations, industries, and community leaders to promote the Agricultural program and to recruit new volunteers.
Administrative Management - 5%• Support volunteer direction and management procedures are followed according to established policies and procedures by providing guidance, leadership, and resources for volunteers and volunteer leaders including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, evaluation, and management. • Assist with solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise within the program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures and with supervisor guidance as needed.• Assist with identifying, anticipating, recommending, and planning for program needs/supplies.• Assist in identifying ways to reduce costs and maximize existing resources within the program and Association.
Administrative Coordination/Operation - 75%• Coordinate administrative tasks related to ag programming such as connecting community members to existing resources, distributing, and disseminating program materials; compile and maintain teaching materials.• Assist with solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise within the program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures and with supervisor guidance as needed.• Schedule volunteer events, meetings, programs, and trainings to foster contact and relationship building within program volunteer base.• Organize and coordinate activities, programs and special projects including but not limited to the L.E.A.F. (Learn.Empower.Achieve.Farm.)program, Chautauqua Grown program promoting roadside and retail market and food systems coordination, Master Gardener Volunteer Program, Master Food Preservation Program, Farm to School programming, Farmer Neighbor Dinner, and other extension association events and activities.• Coordinate and assist with special projects and outreach efforts as required by Supervisor.• Track and record volunteer activity.• Assist with the coordination, inventory, organization and preparation of materials, equipment, reference materials, etc. for a variety of ag programs and other extension association activities as assigned. • Accurately collect, prepare, and maintain paperwork, participant files and database as required by supervisor, Association, and funding source requirements.• Coordinate promotion and marketing of Ag and Farm to School programming efforts through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational, and other organizations.• Participate in team decision-making activities.• Maintain confidentiality of information of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.• Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.• Provide data and information in a timely manner to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others, as necessary.• Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. • Transport of self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities as required.
Professional Improvement - 5%• In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.• Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and events as scheduled/required.
Health and Safety - Applies to all duties and functions• Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.• Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.• Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
Policy and Other Duties as Assigned - Applies to all duties and functions• Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.• Conduct all programming and activities in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.• Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner at all times. • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, procedures, processes, and Skills for Success. • Performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.• Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
