BAE Systems, one of the world s largest defense contractors and a Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a Chemical Process Engineer - Facilities to help us conceptualize and execute modernization and sustainment of energetic manufacturing processes at Holston Army Ammunition Plant.
In this position, you will be supporting the Ordnance Systems, Inc. (OSI) Business at our Kingsport, TN facility. This position will report onsite.

BAE Systems is hiring aChemical Process Engineerin Facility Engineeringwho willbe responsible for engineering and technical tasks to support design and construction of projects to increase, modernize, and sustain chemical production capacity at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant (HSAAP) in northeastern Tennessee. TheChemical Process Engineerin this role would be responsible for technical tasks including planning, design, analysis, and engineering inputs into construction and maintenance, determining the process requirements for conceptual projects while also guiding strategic planning, estimating and project scope decisions as they pertain to how best to integrate into the energetic production facilities at HSAAP. This position requires a high degree of technical competence regarding the broad application of engineering principles to the development of new capabilities and/or solutions to customers challenging modernization problems. This position will provide technical oversight during the actual field installation and commissioning of equipment.
This function resides in a matrixed organization supporting both facilities planning/strategy as well as production design development support. Most days this role's responsibilities would involve coordinating with the Engineering Manager to determine what projects should be prioritized and the scope of each project's technical requirements. This process involves learning and understanding the current modernization/sustainment strategy for the facility and reconciling that knowledge with the plant's current needs and making recommendations for projects that satisfy both the plant's future and current needs. This would involve reviewing current production process steps and developing equipment or technology recommendations that inform an estimate that could be utilized to prepare a project proposal for submission to the United States Government to be considered for funding. This position will need to have the fundamentals of engineering and design with the capacity to learn the job-specific applications of that knowledge in order to make design specification decisions or make recommendations for production processes. This position supports three primary functions:
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Work with a multi-discipline engineering team to perform plant and project engineering. Select construction materials and methods, write specifications, supervise and prepare drawings, control cost, and manage work to meet project schedules.
+ Perform engineering analyses for one or more of the following: thermal systems, power systems, pumping / piping systems, HVAC systems, machinery design and layout, process cooling and heating systems, storage tank design and construction, vessel design and construction, inspection and repair.
+ Conduct inspections of existing facilities such as buildings, equipment, and pipelines to determine the integrity and safety. Make recommendations concerning any needed modifications.
+ Support development of plans and schedules for the construction phase of projects ensuring that materials, equipment, and personnel will be available to meet project schedules
+ Ensure that work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, and good construction practices and within cost during the execution phase
+ Create detailed project proposals, scopes of work and estimates
+ Review and approve design packages from equipment suppliers and design firms providing constructability input
+ Execute commissioning plan and maintain documentation as needed
+ Consider safety in all aspects of work and design
+ Responsible for overall technical viability to requirements as well as successful completion of engineering tasks on the assigned projects.
+ Create the technical development plan and overall engineering tasking. Lead the technical team in meeting schedule within budget. Provide regular updates to progress.
+ Provide technical risk management for the project. Coordinate the technical aspects of the programs with the overall OSI (Ordnance Systems Inc.) team.
+ Lead internal engineering or external suppliers in the development of drawings, statements of work, and specification packages for procurement of equipment or services.
+ Prepare budgetary and engineering estimates.
+ Supervise subcontractor work to assure satisfactory performance of the scope of work.
+ Prepare schedules regarding assigned technical tasks and provide status on tasking.
+ Prepare workflow schedule and process task duration estimates.
+ Responsible for assisting the PM in development of the budget, approval of purchase requisitions and of invoices.
+ Performs other duties as required.
+ Willingness to make technical recommendations bounded by assumptions based on incomplete or undefined project requirements/outlines

+ Bachelor s Degree required; engineering degree preferred.
+ Experience in the chemical process industry (3 years), or 6 years other relevant experience
+ Experience in project or construction estimating
+ Experience in engineering design, development, construction and commissioning.
+ Experience in an engineering technical project position.
+ Must be able to effectively communicate and interface with various functional departments and customers
+ Broad engineering experience in at least one of these areas: Civil Design, Structural Design, Process Design, Machine Design, or Pumps and Piping System Design, Power Systems, Control Systems.
+ Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including UFC.
+ Working knowledge of design software for efficient production of engineering work (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor, etc.).
+ Ability to direct design teams and external design firms and create required engineering documentation using Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Project.
+ Ability to interface effectively with site operations and maintenance teams.

+ Professional Engineering License
+ Experience in Energetics and related processes and Department of Defense (DoD) projects.
+ Systems Engineering Analysis, Model Based Systems Engineering, Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics, other analysis software experience
+ Ability to generate engineering design drawing using appropriate software.
+ 10 years experience preferred.
+ Experience in the design and construction of chemical manufacturing facilities that involve the use of acids, bases, and solvents for the production of energetic materials.
+ Experience with demilitarization, explosives site safety (DDESB), or environmental safety regulations (EPA, TDEC, etc.)
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $91980 - $156330

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
