    OPS INMATE WORK CREW LEADER

    THIS IS A FULL-TIME OTHER PERSONAL SERVICES (OPS) POSITION***

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    A high school diploma or its equivalent and (1) one year of supervisory experience in an outdoor job environment such as agricultural, forestry, plant nursery or building construction operation.

     

    In addition to the above requirements, a person employed in this class must meet the provisions of Chapter 33-3, Department of Corrections Rules and Regulations, prior to independently supervising inmates. These requirements include: (1) Background investigation. (2) A minimum of 32 hours orientation training by the Department of Corrections pertaining to inmate supervision. (3) Approval from the Department of Corrections for supervision of minimum and medium custody inmates.

     

    NOTE: ALL POSITIONS WITHIN THIS CLASS REQUIRE POSSESSION OF A VALID DRIVER LICENSE.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Occasional to moderate travel required.

     

    Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

    NOTE:

    This position will require occasional/partial weekend work.

    JOB DUTIES:

    Responsible to Groundskeeping Supervisor III for the supervision of inmates and the documentation of inmate misconduct while under FFS supervision and for the construction and/or maintenance of fixed improvements as assigned. Projects will normally be in the areas of minor carpentry, plumbing, electric, and masonry work. An employee in this position makes on-the-job decisions that may alter and affect each assigned project.

     

    This position supervises inmates who are assigned to landscaping and grounds maintenance activities performed on the headquarters area, residence sites, forest wide recreation areas, and other areas as assigned. The incumbent will also be responsible for training assigned offenders in the safe use and care of tools, methods and practices of timber stand improvement, tree seedling propagation and care, erosion control, road maintenance, facilities construction and maintenance, and other state lands management and/or maintenance activities. Supervises inmates who are involved in special projects such as tree planting, land preparation in cattle demonstration area and improvements of the field trial area, and yearly pine cone collection.

     

    Responsible for Department of Corrections gain time reports, inventory of assigned equipment, project planning and completion of reports.

     

    Responsible for maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned.
