    General Job Description

    This is a professional position responsible for performing advanced compensation and classification work in support of the university’s needs. Serves as a primary contact for compensation and classification, interpreting and explaining university policies and procedures related to assigned functions. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Associate Director of Human Resources.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Serves as a primary contact for compensation and classification, interpreting and explaining university policies and procedures related to assigned functions.

    2. Prepares, revises, and maintains official job descriptions for the university. Ensures descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed in the position.

    3. Gathers and documents job, organizational, and occupational information, including duties, skills, knowledge, and abilities required by each job.

    4. Assesses jobs to determine position classification, exemption status under the Fair Labor Standards Act ( FLSA ), and appropriate salary range.

    5. Benchmarks jobs against survey data and other market data to determine salary range for positions.

    6. Reviews additional compensation requests and follows up with departments as needed. Coordinates processing of requests with HRIS team.

    7. Advises departments on reorganization plans and options.

    8. Performs position restructures and reclassifications and verifies internal promotions, to include Electronic Personnel Action Form ( EPAF ) entry.

    9. Provides assistance in the use of HR systems including but not limited to applicant tracking, training management, and HR enterprise software.

    10. Participates in and gathers data from compensation surveys. Uses spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends.

    11. Reviews university and departmental policies and procedures and recommends changes.

    12. Compiles data and prepares various special, quarterly, monthly, annual, and ad hoc reports.

    13. Assists in regular data reviews. Verifies, validates, and corrects data as needed.

    14. Assists with the merit increase process and annual salary planner process in the HR enterprise system.

    15. Assists in departmental website maintenance.

    16. Provides support to other functional areas of the department as requested.

    Non-Essential Job Functions

    1. May assist with the processing and filing of various departmental records.

    2. May work with departmental staff to create automated process efficiencies.

    3. Assists with special projects when assigned.

    4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

     

    1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

    2. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to assigned functions.

    3. Knowledge of compensation philosophy, strategies, and plan design.

    4. Knowledge of job descriptions, job analysis, and position classification.

    5. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.

    6. Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintain a satisfactory work product.

    7. Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions.

    8. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.

    9. Ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues.

    10. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.

    11. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

    12. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

    13. Ability to explain policies and procedures to staff and the public.

    14. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.

    15. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.

    16. Ability to learn office and university-specific software.

    17. Ability to maintain currency of knowledge and skills related to assigned functions.

     

    Physical Demands

    Required Education

    High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Required Experience and Training

    Four years of related experience is required. Experience in compensation and classification is required. Additional education may substitute for experience on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field is preferred. Experience with applicant tracking systems is preferred. Experience in higher education is preferred. Experience in a Texas state agency is preferred. Experience with Banner HR module is preferred.

     

    Special Conditions for Eligibility

     

    This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

     

    This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

    Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting

     

    This is an on-campus position with regular work hours of Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm.

    Benefit and Retirement Eligibility

     

    This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
