Full-Time RN – Pre/Post Op – UPMC Magee

Position Highlights:
+ Flexible shifts: 4, 9-hour shifts (5:30 AM–3:00 PM, 6:30 AM–4:00 PM, 9:00 AM–6:30 PM)
+ Limited on-call & weekend requirements: 1–2 evening shifts (6 PM–3 AM) and 2 weekend calls (12-hour shifts) per 6-week schedule
+ Minimal holiday commitments

+ Minimum 2 years of nursing experience

Responsibilities:
+ Identify opportunities for clinical quality and workplace improvement using evidence-based practice.
+ Lead or participate in teams launching innovations in patient care and workforce health.
+ Serve as a role model in nursing practice through expertise, teaching, specialized guidance, and evidence-based practice.
+ Provide constructive feedback to healthcare team members and engage in nursing peer review.

+ Demonstrate strong clinical assessment and analytical skills within Relationship-Based Care.
+ Actively engage in shared governance and hospital-wide councils.
+ Mentor and develop students, graduate nurses, and new hires while fostering continuous learning through research, presentations, and journal clubs.
+ Apply the nursing process to create a healing environment, setting daily goals with patient involvement.
+ Communicate patient conditions effectively, negotiate care improvements, and ensure comprehensive documentation.
+ Identify clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual patient concerns.
+ Align practices with national standards and organizational goals for patient safety, quality, and experience.

+ Maintain a healthy workplace by preventing horizontal violence and impairment while balancing work and personal life through prioritization and delegation.
The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with patients of various ages, as specified by their assigned unit. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development across the lifespan, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the appropriate information to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs. Care needs should be provided as described in department policies and procedures.
Experience & Education:
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience required.
+ BSN preferred.
+ Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted to this level.
+ Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on the annual performance evaluation to retain status.
Skills & Abilities:
+ Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
+ Work productively and effectively within a complex environment.
+ Handle multiple and changing priorities and operate specialized equipment.
+ Demonstrate exemplary clinical judgment with strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to patient care.
+ Lead others in the application of the nursing process.
+ Mobility and visual manual dexterity required.
+ Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Additional Requirements:
+ Annual completion of a professional contribution selected from department, hospital, or system goals, approved by Unit Director.
+ UPMC-approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained.
+ _Certification not required if a Master’s in Nursing or DNP is held._
+ _If a BSN is held, a Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for certification._
Licensure, Certifications & Clearances:
+ Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse:
+ Either in the state where the facility is located
+ OR in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement
+ UPMC-approved nursing certification preferred.
+ CPR certification required based on AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component, within 30 days of hire.
Required Certifications:
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Act 34 Clearance
* If working on an out-of-state NLC license, employees who later change their residency to the state where the facility is located will have 60 days to apply for licensure within that state.
