    Job Description:

    We are searching for the best talent for a Senior Engineer R&D, Topical Skin Adhesives located in Raritan, NJ

     

    Purpose: The Senior Engineer, R&D for the Topical Skin Adhesives platform will conduct research directed toward the discovery and development of innovative topical skin adhesive products. This role will involve hands-on technical work, coordinating project management activities, and ensuring the timely achievement of project milestones. The engineer will work under minimal supervision on complex projects and will contribute considerably to the development of wound healing products and adhesives.

    You will be responsible for:

    In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

    + Provide technical leadership and managerial oversight for projects within the topical skin adhesives product pipeline.

    + Conduct advanced research and development for a large project or several smaller projects utilizing established and novel technologies

    + Provide hands-on technical work while assisting and supervising others as needed.

    + Employ specialized knowledge in medical device development to support product innovation.

    + Ensure all project timelines and objectives are met, coordinating process management and reporting.

    + Collaborate with R&D Leadership to establish project and pipeline goals, ensuring tactical execution in line with agreed upon priorities and timelines.

    + Lead efforts to develop engineering capabilities for skin adhesive design and direct technical initiatives in response to business needs.

    + Prioritize and enrich the product pipeline as a key focus area.

    + Serve as a key managerial interface, providing tactical direction across programs; partner cross-functionally to manage risks and effectively resolve project roadblocks, including resource constraints and communication challenges.

    + Attract, recruit, and develop a team of high-performing professionals to maintain leadership in this strategic technology area.

    + Hire, train, and conduct performance evaluations for staff, setting and communicating clear priorities, standards, and expectations.

    + Champion the use of best practices throughout the R&D function.

    + Engage with the global community of healthcare professionals to identify unmet needs and implement programs to capitalize on emerging opportunities.

    + Supervise engineering or scientific staff, contractors, interns, and other collaborators in their daily responsibilities as necessary.

    + Collaborate closely with R&D associates and partner with other functions (e.g., Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing) on project strategies and execution.

    + Mentor junior associates within the team to facilitate their professional growth.

    + Coordinate and manage resources and efforts necessary to achieve business goals while mitigating risks effectively.

    + Lead initiatives to create innovative solutions and products, pushing the boundaries of current technology.

    + Create, edit, review, and approve R&D and technical documentation related to assigned projects.

    + Manage basic engineering operations and complex scientific evaluations on new products, processes, and technologies. Translate advanced design concepts into workable prototypes, specifications, and design outputs.

    + Communicate effectively with management and relay both technical and non-technical information across broader audiences.

    + Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements in all activities.

    + Develop and review project plans to support new product development and lifecycle management of existing products as necessary.

    + Identify and communicate business-related issues or opportunities to upper management.

    + Adhere to all Company guidelines related to health, safety, and environmental practices, ensuring that subordinates have the resources needed to comply.

    + Maintain personal and Company compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and procedures.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education:

    + A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field is required, with 7-9 years of relevant experience. A Master's or Ph.D. degree with 5-7 years of experience is preferred, including a minimum of 2-4 years in medical device development.

    Required Skills & Experience:

    + Proven ability to lead complex projects effectively.

    + Strong verbal communication skills suitable for both large and small groups, alongside clear and concise written communication abilities.

    + Capable of making decisions independently and dealing with abstract or complex cause-and-effect relationships, often in data-limited situations.

    + Solid grounding in applying scientific principles, analytical techniques, and judgment to address technical challenges and establish new methods and procedures.

    + Knowledge of chemistry and physics with an understanding of material characterization, structure-property relationships, and formulation development for applications.

    + Proficient in working effectively within a laboratory environment while conducting hands-on experiments and clearly communicating results to project teams.

    + Broad knowledge of medical device product development, biocompatible materials, and relevant regulatory requirements for topical skin adhesives and wound healing products.

    + Ability to work with minimal supervision and familiarity with material and process specifications.

    + Strong interpersonal skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software.

    + Willingness to engage directly in laboratory activities and experimental work as part of product development efforts.

    Other:

    + This position is based in Raritan, NJ, and requires up to 10% travel

     

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is [$100,500] to [$130,000]

     

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
