NCR is looking for a mid-career software engineer to join our team in Atlanta. NCR Edge is creating a highly scalable, hybrid (cloud and on-premises), multi-region solution leveraging cutting edge technology solutions.  Be part of creating a new era in NCR’s 135-year history by leading the cloud expansion of our most critical services.

The Foundation squad is a unique team within the Edge project focusing on the entire lifecycle of creation, build, and release of software for the platform. The scope of work is broad including software development and CLI tooling, CI/CD pipelines for testing and release, Bazel build system administration and enhancements, infrastructure tooling, and root error cause analysis and investigation just to name a few. A successful candidate for this role will have a broad area of interest and enthusiasm for a wide rather than narrow focus of learning and expertise.

The scope of the skills involved are broad, but do not feel discouraged to apply if you do not meet every requirement. Successful candidates will not come in knowing every technology or concept used by the team but will have a strong motivation and aptitude to learn and understand them over time.

Position Summary & Key Areas of Responsibility

+ Build, test, operate, and improve platform engineering solutions.

+ Own problems end-to-end, engaging with stakeholders to contribute to product roadmap, considering performance, observability, operations, testing.

+ Participate in shaping an effective software development lifecycle with a focus on customer support and root cause analysis.

+ Adhere to high engineering standards by following directions set by engineering leads and providing feedback when processes can be improved.

+ Be a great team player by demonstrating a strong learning attitude and growth mindset.

+ Diagnose and debug issues within the system or in downstream dependencies, working with other teams to resolve issues.

Basic Qualifications

+ A strong desire to learn and a growth mindset

+ Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical Discipline or equivalent work experience

+ At least 3 years of experience in software engineering

+ 2+ years of *nix (macOS, Linux) OS use and knowledge

+ 1+ years’ experience working with Kubernetes clusters and their associated components

+ 1+ years’ experience working with Public Clouds (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

+ Professional experience with one or more programming languages and demonstration of coding best practices (ex. dependency inversion), data structures, and systems design

+ Familiarity with collaboration and issue tracking using GitHub, Gitlab or similar

Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience working with the Go programming language in a professional (or equivalent personal project/open source) environment

+ Experience with designing distributed systems in consideration of performance, responsiveness, concurrency, availability, supportability, observability

+ Platform engineering experience: GitOps, CI/CD, Open Container Initiative (OCI), test infrastructure, Bazel

Stand-out Qualifications

+ Professional experience working with Bazel (or other build systems like make)

+ Experience creating and working with Kubernetes CRDs

General knowledge, skills and abilities

+ Google Cloud Platform

+ Familiarity using (or contributing to) open-source projects

+ In-depth knowledge of end-to-end systems development life cycles (including agile, iterative, and other modern approaches to software development)

+ Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization (e.g., executive, management, individual contributors)

+ Ability to estimate work effort for stories and epics, and ensure the milestones are successfully completed

+ Ability to guide and advise on best practices for architecture and design based on previous experience

+ Positive outlook, strong work ethic, and responsive to internal and external customers and contacts

+ Knowledge of networking, computing platform, storage, database, security, middleware, network and systems management, and related infrastructure technologies and practice
