Part-Time Lecturer, Management and Organizations
- New York University (Washington, DC)
-
NYU’s Washington, DC Academic Center is seeking a local, part-time lecturer to teach a four credit undergraduate course, “Management and Organizations,” for spring semester of 2026.
The spring semester runs from January 20 to May 8. Classes generally meet twice weekly, for a total of 42 contact hours. In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and assessment, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute office hour per instruction day, during which the instructor will be available to meet with students. We will discuss details with candidates during the interview process.
The instructor role includes all preparation, delivery, and grading. Using Washington, DC as a learning tool (e.g., a guest speaker, an excursion) is an expectation for the course. Courses are to be intellectually challenging in content, and rigorous student assessment is required. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who share NYU Washington, DC’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and who can contribute to the diversity of intellectual life at our site.
Course Description:
The primary objective of the course is to help students understand the elements of organizational success, as well as common impediments to it. It focuses on how organizations position themselves within their external environment and how they organize and motivate their people. More specifically, the course explores how organizational leaders develop winning strategies, and then design their organization in a way that aligns structures, social relationships, tasks, human resource practices, and people to achieve those strategies. It identifies the challenges that organizational leaders face in a constantly evolving environment involving competing goals and agendas, and an increasingly diverse and global workforce.
The course also aims to strengthen students’ managerial and leadership potential through in-class discussions, exercises, case analyses, and team projects. These help students improve their analytic and interpersonal skills.
