    Responsibilities:

    GENERAL PURPOSE

    Responsible for attracting, encouraging and admitting of individuals to the University who meet the standards set by university policy. Assists in the recruiting, application and evaluation process. Develops the knowledge of the University and its range of available opportunities. Counsels / advises students, prospective students and families on matters of admissions. Advises prospective and continuing students on how to apply for admission.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Admissions Programming & Presentations (On Campus / Virtual)

    + Prepares and delivers group information sessions, webinars, and workshops throughout the calendar year to prospective students, families, and school-based, independent, community-based organization counselors in an effort to showcase the University of Rochester as a potential post-secondary education destination.

    + Promotes affinity toward the University and drives application and enrollment efforts.

    + Participates in large admissions event programming (Research Rochester, Admitted Student Events, etc.) throughout the year in a variety of capacities; event planning, panel, and session facilitating / moderating, etc. Liaises with departments across campus, welcomes visitors to campus, and supports visitors during their time on campus.

    Recruitment Travel

    + Plans, researches, conducts, and evaluates 8-10 weeks of recruitment travel annually (off campus and virtual) to an assigned geographic territory (that may include local, domestic and / or international travel).

    + This includes attending college fairs, visits to public/private high schools, community colleges, and community-based organizations to meet with prospective students, families, school-based, independent and community-based organization counselors and promotes the University of Rochester as a post-secondary destination.

    + Plans and presents preliminary travel budget to Territory Team Lead in advance of annual recruitment travel to ensure that Office of Admissions recruitment goals align with the University’s enrollment targets and contributes to the overall Office of Admissions and the University’s fiscal health.

    + Builds key sustained relationships with secondary school, communitybased, and independent counselors by visiting high schools, attending college fairs, and participating in counselor receptions.

    + Prepares annual report for senior leaders within Office of Admissions detailing recruitment activities and outcomes at the conclusion of the travel season with recommendations for future opportunities that allow senior leadership within the Office of Admissions to determine future recruitment strategies.

    Application Review

    + Reviews and evaluates undergraduate applications from assigned geographic regions / schools (domestic, and international) as a first reader for Arts, Sciences and Engineering to determine admissibility based on various secondary / post-secondary school curricula and credit review, non-academic / extra-curricular engagement, written communication samples and non-cognitive and values-based characteristics, and behavioral demonstration. Application review may include first-year, transfer and / or international applications.

    + Serves as a key member of an admissions committee member for an assigned geographic territory to make final admissions decision recommendations where there is a disagreement on the admission decision between first and second reader.

    General Admissions Responsibilities

    + Conducts admissions interviews and completes formal interview write up, which is included in the student’s record and potential application for admissions.

    + Answers telephone and email inquiries from a variety of constituents across all phases of the admission cycle.

    + Provides timely, accurate and supportive information to help prospective students, families, school-based, independent and community-based organization counselors.

    + Engages in a variety of activities across larger admissions teams

    + (Programming & Events, International Initiatives, Recruitment & Outreach Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Marketing & Communications) to provide enhanced constituent admissions / recruitment experiences designed to meet Office of Admissions recruitment goals.

    Other Duties as Assigned

    + Continues growth and development in the admissions domain through attendance at conferences, workshops (etc.) as a participant, panelist, presenter, and or moderator; remains current in the field, implements best practices, and incorporates knowledge into practice.

    + Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other leaders.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + Bachelor’s degree required.

    + One year of experience in related field such as higher education, college admissions, school counseling, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    + Microsoft Suite of Products or the equivalent and data analysis.Evening and weekend assignments are frequent.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

    + Valid driver’s license recognized by the State of New York and the ability to travel by air, rail, and water.
