    About the unit

     

    3H is a 22 Neuroscience/Spine unit at Blodgett Hospital that specializes in the care of patients admitted with neurological conditions, stroke, and spinal surgeries such as fusions and laminectomies. Employees are often drawn to 3H for the variety of patients while still having a specialty focus. Our employees become competent in caring for a large array of both surgical and medical patients and become experts in the care of patients within our specialties. Specifically, our team is known as being experts in stroke and the care of a wide variety of neurological conditions, managing the care of wounds, drains and post-operative recovery. Additional unique skills that those hired to 3H will learn include utilization of the NIHSS Stroke Scale.

    Scope of work

     

    Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

    Qualifications

    + High School Diploma or Work Equivalent

    + AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
