M-F 8:30a-5p, no weekends Pay Grade:$45.60 -$72.95 an hour As a Nurse Manager, you will: Assumes responsibility and accountability for the oversight of day-to-day operations and compliance with in-patient pre/post-operative general surgery procedures and clinical pathways. Also responsible for the Joint Program management, monthly report generation and review, process improvement, patient and provider satisfaction and established metrics. Coordinates the efforts between the surgeons, FPP, HUH leadership, nurses, patient care technicians, etc., and implements care/treatment plan while tracking the progress of General Surgery and the Joint Program and identifies areas requiring attention and monitors performance improvement. Ensures patient continuum of care services and monitors outcomes. Manages staff, clinical orientations, education, clinical pre/post-operative competencies, skills competencies, quality& performance improvement, staff meetings and communication as well as annual performance evaluations. Establishes, role-models, and upholds the standards of practice, the Mission, Vision & Values of HUH & AHC. Sets objectives and goals for skill development of the clinical team. In collaboration with Nursing Director, develops budget(s) for the department and allocates funds within budget(s) to accomplish objectives. Monitors variance against budget(s). Consistently, timely, and accurately completes tasks necessary for service recovery, complaints, near misses, and adverse events. Participates in patient rounds. Ensures and monitors staff participation in patient rounds as part of the delivery care model to optimize the patient experience and outcomes. Actively leads and encourages staff participation in continuous improvement efforts, DMAICs, and shared governance. Operationalizes the strategic plan for the unit and department. Attends and participates in weekly, monthly, regular Leadership Meetings for professional development; Timely meets deadlines for submissions; Collaborates with Manager colleagues, Surgeons/Physicians, Nursing Supervisors, Interdisciplinary/Allied Health teams in positive and professional manner. Participates in data collection, analysis and presentation of clinical outcomes of care and customer satisfaction standards and regulatory requirements. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. Requirements: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required Master's Degree preferred Five years of work experience in department-specific area, as defined by the department-specific certification requirements Three Years of supervisory experience Current District of Columbia Registered Nurse license Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate through American Heart Association Certified in area of specialty by a nationally recognized agency Certification in leadership within 1 year of eligibility Participation in professional organizations At Howard University Hospital our job is to care for you.
