    Position Overview

    We are seeking a seasoned expert in ocular biology to play a key role in advancing our drug discovery efforts.

     

    This position offers a unique chance to apply deep knowledge of ophthalmic disease pathogenesis toward both internal and collaborative research projects in the identification and validation of novel therapeutic targets, contributing directly to pipeline progression through close collaboration across functional teams. The successful candidate will bring a strong record of scientific leadership and innovation in ophthalmic drug discovery. A passion for early-stage research, coupled with the ability to inspire and lead a team of dedicated scientists, is essential for success in this role.

    Responsibilities

    • Act as a critical contributor in our mission to build a comprehensive and risk-balanced pharma and consumer pipeline by leveraging both internal and external opportunities

    • Drive research efforts spanning target identification and validation, preclinical development, to advancement to clinical development

    • Serve as non-clinical lead for multiple concurrent programs, ensuring robust experimental design, efficient resource allocation, and rigorous data analysis and interpretation

    • Evaluate external scientific opportunities as part of cross-functional diligence teams, extending from search phase through collaborative program leadership

    • Identify and execute non-clinical strategic priorities in collaboration with key team members to develop comprehensive pharmacology/pharmacokinetic/toxicology data packages, and coordinate completion of high-quality regulatory documentation

    • Engage with internal cross-functional R&D and Commercial stakeholders to ensure alignment from early-stage research to launch and commercialization of new products

    • Research, design and oversee decision-making experiments to support ophthalmic drug discovery and development

    • Present data and results to multiple cross-functional stakeholders within the organization as well as external collaborators, and pursue publications and presentations to showcase our pipeline externally

    Qualifications

    • PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, biological science, or other related discipline with at least 10 years’ experience in ophthalmic drug development in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting

    • Demonstrated expertise in drug discovery across all stages—from target identification and validation through lead optimization, candidate selection, and early development

    • Comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiology of ophthalmic diseases, including key molecular pathways and therapeutic targets relevant to this field

    • Extensive hands-on experience with both in vitro and in vivo preclinical models specific to ophthalmic diseases

    • Deep familiarity with various drug modalities and advanced drug delivery technologies tailored for ocular applications

    • Proven leadership in guiding discovery teams, setting scientific strategy, prioritizing initiatives, and effectively managing resources

    • Successful track record of managing scientists, leading research projects, and independently designing and executing experiments

    • Strong ability to influence and lead within cross-functional teams

    • Record of scientific contributions, including peer-reviewed publications and/or successful advancement of novel drug targets

    • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal

    • Highly self-driven with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects effectively

    For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting pay for this role is between $172,000.00 and $245,000.00. The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors.
