    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Manager, Basketball Communications, will play a vital role in the execution of basketball communications plans for the Philadelphia 76ers. This position will support the department’s efforts with all media availability surrounding the team, while possessing a strong understanding of the local and national sports media landscape.

     

    The Manager, Basketball Communications, will also oversee the production of game notes, press releases, and other press materials, while carrying out the set up and facilitation of press conferences. Additionally, this role will collaborate with the organization’s corporate communications team to develop, organize, and pitch key messaging, while working closely with other internal business departments.

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE BELOW:

    + Lead key media relations functions, including the organization of interviews and press conferences, game-day arena set up, and credentialing.

    + Oversee the production of all team-issued publications, including the annual media guide, press releases, media advisories, game notes, and internal company talking points.

    + Work closely with Director, Basketball Communications and Director, Player Engagement for all player-related, off-court PR efforts.

    + Collaborate with 76ers content team on the planning, approval, execution, and distribution of team-generated content.

    + Implement public relations strategies that drive basketball narratives through traditional and unique media opportunities on a local, regional and national level.

    + Utilize media monitoring service to track key themes and develop media analytics reports.

    + Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national/international media members.

    + Work closely with key HBSE stakeholders to develop storylines for external use.

    + Manage game night staff and members of the stats crew.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + 4 to 6 years of sports communications experience, preferably at either the collegiate or professional ranks.

    + Experience working with athletes and front office personnel preferred.

    + Strong understanding of the NBA landscape with desire to learn about the franchise’s storied history.

    + Proven experience pitching and securing editorial content/stories.

    + Strong writing/proofreading background.

    + Familiarity with practical applications such as Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Office, and media monitoring services.

    + Ability to demonstrate a strategic mindset and work in a fast-paced environment.

    + Must work well in both group and 1-on-1 settings.

    + Strong attention to detail with commitment to high-quality work.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    + Travel Requirements: Must be able to travel for team and league events – including but not limited to away games, All-Star Weekend, and NBA Summer League.

    + Work Environment: This position is based in Camden, NJ with work frequently required at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
