    The Department of Chemistry and the National Cancer Institute-designated University of Virginia Comprehensive Cancer Center invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of drug discovery with a focus on small molecule approaches to treat cancer-relevant targets. The position is part of the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center investment in drug discovery as well as a component of the University's new Grand Challenge Research Initiatives focus on Precision Medicine.

     

    The new faculty member will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research community in the Department of Chemistry and be an important member of the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center. We offer a collegial and supportive environment with a strong record of supporting, mentoring, and championing new and junior faculty. The Chemistry Department and the Cancer Center offer many opportunities for collaboration within and between the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Medicine. Primary appointment will be in the Department of Chemistry with joint appointments in the School of Medicine possible.

     

    Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field at the time of appointment, a strong record of innovative research, and a commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Cover letter that succinctly highlights your most significant research accomplishments, experiences and qualifications as well as your commitment to cancer-focused medicinal chemistry efforts and a description of past experience and/or future plans to prepare students to be leaders in a globally connected world.

    2. CV that includes contact information for three references.

    3. A research statement that includes your vision for your research program at the university (2-3 pages). Potential applications of your proposed research program to cancer should be highlighted.

    4. A statement on teaching and scientific mentoring that details your experience and goals (≤ 1 page).
