The Extension Associate for Nutrition, in collaboration with an Extension Specialist, assists in the development, implementation, and management of research-based educational programs for members of the North Carolina community, aligned with the philosophy, policy, and overall mission, goals, and educational objectives of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Program. This position supports ongoing program evaluation and recommends revisions based on data and evolving program needs. The Extension Associate for Nutrition also independently designs and implements programs as assigned. Specifically, this role serves as the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program ( EFNEP ) Outreach Coordinator and supports the delivery of initiatives focused on improving nutrition and increasing physical activity for members of the North Carolina community.

The Cooperative Extension Program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an educational outreach organization within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Cooperative Extension at A&T provides researched-based educational information, programming and technical assistance to limited-resource audiences that address a diverse range of issues in four programmatic areas – Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community and Rural Development, and 4-H Youth Development. Together with its partners – North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, state and county governments, a dynamic and resourceful system is formed. In addition to campus operations, The Cooperative Extension Program has professionally staffed offices in almost half of the 100 counties in North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree required from an accredited university in food and nutrition, family and consumer sciences, education, or other closely related fields.
- Three or more years of work experience in nutrition or family/consumer sciences.
- Computer literacy (proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Office, etc.; experience with statistical analysis software preferred)
- Strong oral and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to assist with planning, implementing, marketing, and evaluating educational programs
- Ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities
- Valid Driver’s license and personal transportation.
- Ability to travel and work after hours/weekends as needed.
Preferred:
- In addition to Master’s degree, four or more years of work experience in nutrition or family/consumer sciences.
- Eight to ten years of experience working in an occupation directly related to the position requirements.
- Experience in development of training curriculum/training materials.
- Experience working effectively as a team member.
- Ability to manage time and resources.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
