General Requirements:
Preferred qualifications include five or more years of instructional experience in geosciences at the secondary level, demonstrated history in supervising student laboratory assistants, and the ability to advise undergraduate students.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
The Department of Environmental and Geosciences at Sam Houston State University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Practice in Geosciences, beginning Fall semester 2025.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach a variety of undergraduate courses (e.g. Weather and Climate, Sustainability, People Place and the Environment) along with the ability to supervise introductory laboratories in geosciences (e.g. Weather and Climate or Geologic Hazards).
Educational Requirements for the Position (Faculty Positions Only):
The candidate must have an earned Masters degree in geosciences or related discipline (e.g. Geography, Geology, Environmental Science).
Experience Required for the Position (Faculty Positions Only):
In addition, the ideal candidate should be grant active, have an excellent teaching record supported by student and peer reviews, and have a record of demonstrated professional service. The candidate should have experience with distance education technology, innovative teaching strategies, and the use of Learning Management Systems (e.g. Blackboard).
