EchoStar** has an exciting opportunity for a **Sr. Director, Aviation Solutions and Services** in our **Hughes Network Systems** division supporting our Aviation business unit who will be responsible for leading the strategic development, execution, and management of all bids, proposals, and marketing initiatives for the aviation division. This executive role ensures the successful pursuit of new business opportunities and the promotion of the organization’s capabilities across commercial, and business aviation sectors. This position will be located at our headquarters in **Germantown, MD.
Responsibilities:
End to End Proposal Life Cycle Management
+ Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of aviation-related bids and proposals, including capture planning, bid/no-bid decisions, RFP analysis, proposal strategy, and compliance.
+ Oversee the proposal development team, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions aligned with client requirements and organizational objectives.
+ Implement best practices, tools, and templates for proposal management, writing, and pricing.
+ Make bid/no bid recommendations to ensure we are leveraging our resources in the best possible was to optimize customer satisfaction and ensuring profitability.
+ Work cross-functionally with operations, finance, engineering, legal, and executive teams to develop compelling, compliant, and competitive bids & proposals.
+ Ensure that our solutions and cost basis for all bids has the highest level of fidelity putting Hughes in a position to win deals while optimizing profitability and enable strong execution of programs we have won.
+ Create SLAs, and adhere to distinct timeline for RFP approvals, responses.
Sales & Business Development Support
+ Partner with the sales, business development and capture teams to identify, qualify, and position for new opportunities across aviation markets.
+ Conduct win/loss analysis and continuously improve capture and proposal processes.
+ Support gate reviews, bid strategy sessions, and executive briefings.
+ Interact with customers and position Hughes products and services as the technical sales subject matter expert
Marketing Strategy & Execution
+ Develop and execute a global marketing strategy to promote the aviation division’s capabilities, services, and solutions.
+ Oversee creation of marketing materials including brochures, presentations, white papers, case studies, and digital content.
+ Manage trade show participation, industry events, and speaking opportunities to increase brand visibility and thought leadership.
+ Align marketing efforts with business development goals and customer engagement strategies.
Leadership, Innovation & Strategy
+ Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of proposal managers, sales engineers.
+ Establish performance metrics and KPIs for bid success rates, marketing ROI, and customer engagement.
+ Serve as a senior leader within the company, contributing to broader strategic planning and growth initiatives.
+ Create clear competitive assessment for overall business and on a deal by deal basis. Maintain a solid competitive analysis for HW, SW, and IFEC solutions.
+ Work with the product team to constantly develop new product concepts and ideas with clear ROI and business benefit leveraging Hughes’ factory, engineering, and development prowess.
Basic Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a relevant engineering field (Master’s preferred).
+ 15+ years of experience in aviation or aerospace industry with a strong background in proposals, marketing, and business development.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in EE, CS, AE, and or MBA
+ Analytical, with financial acumen.
+ Deep understanding of the IFEC market with technical knowledge of GEO, LEO systems.
+ Ability to model flight routes and make capacity decisions.
+ Proven track record of winning multi-million aviation programs (commercial).
+ Deep understanding of aviation markets, industry trends, and government procurement (FAR/DFARS if applicable).
+ Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
+ Strong attention to detail, and process oriented.
+ Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
+ Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and manage relationships with customers and suppliers.
+ Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level and competencies. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.
