The **Information Technology (IT) Cloud Architect** is responsible for shaping the strategic vision and technical direction of the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) cloud platform, ensuring that cloud solutions align with architecture principles, operational excellence, business goals, and best practices. Provides technical architecture leadership across multiple technology initiatives, driving scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-native solutions that support the organization's evolving needs. As a key technical leader within the Cloud Platform Engineering team, collaborates with Cloud Engineers, Infrastructure Engineers, and Application, Security, and Development teams across Digital Technology Services (DTS) to establish best practices for cloud architecture, automation, and governance. Ensures that HMH cloud environments are designed for high availability, performance, security, and cost efficiency while leveraging industry best practices for modernization and digital transformation. Leads architecture reviews, cloud design decisions, and roadmap development, advising senior IT leadership on cloud adoption strategies and optimization opportunities. Mentor and guide cloud engineering teams, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement in cloud engineering practices. Ensures HMH cloud investments deliver long-term operational and financial value to the organization.
**Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required** :
+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience (that totals four years).
+ Minimum of 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, and cloud architecture, focused on designing and leading cloud-based solutions.
+ Deep expertise in cloud platforms, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure, including but not limited to Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) architectures.
+ Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, automation, DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies, including tools such as Terraform, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines.
+ Extensive experience in designing highly available, resilient, and scalable cloud architectures, ensuring security, compliance, and cost efficiency.
+ Strong knowledge of networking, security, and identity management as it pertains to cloud computing, including but not limited to concepts such as zero trust, hybrid cloud networking, and secure cloud architectures.
+ Experience with governance frameworks, cloud security principles, compliance standards such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Systems and Organization Controls 2 (SOC 2), and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and risk management in cloud environments.
+ Ability to define and drive cloud strategy and technical roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business goals and technology modernization efforts.
+ Ability to support cloud architecture recommendations and decisions with research, industry trends, and data-driven insights.
+ Demonstrated experience with enterprise IT environments, including applications, middleware, storage, networking, information security, and operations.
+ Ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance to cloud engineering teams, helping drive best practices and technology adoption.
+ Strong consultative, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with executive leadership, architects, engineers, developers, and business stakeholders.
+ Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex environments, identify risks, and develop scalable cloud solutions.
+ Experience working in agile and DevOps environments, leveraging automation, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native development methodologies.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create technical documentation, whitepapers, and architecture diagrams for both technical and executive audiences.
+ Knowledge and Ability in modernization of containers and container methodologies (i.e. Google Kubernetes Engine, Azure AKS, and associated frameworks).
+ Demonstrated ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
**Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred** :
+ Experience in healthcare or highly regulated industries.
+ Strong leadership in cloud transformation initiatives, including large-scale cloud migrations, workload modernization, and automation-first strategies.
+ Expertise in architecting containerized and event-driven systems, including but not limited to Kubernetes and Docker, to support large-scale, distributed applications.
+ Proven track record in cloud financial management (FinOps), including cost optimization, budgeting, and cloud investment strategies to align with business goals.
+ Experience defining and enforcing cloud architectural standards, including creating reference architectures, policy enforcement mechanisms, and cloud governance frameworks.
+ Multi-cloud expertise, including experience designing and optimizing architectures across Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), with interoperability and hybrid cloud strategies focus.
+ Experience leading enterprise-wide cloud adoption efforts, including defining governance models, automation frameworks, and DevSecOps best practices at scale.
**Licenses and Certifications Required** :
+ Google Cloud Platform Certified Professional Cloud Architect.
**Licenses and Certifications Preferred** :
+ Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.
+ Google Cloud Platform Certified Professional Cloud Security Engineer.
